Cataract surgery

I'm scheduled for cataract surgery next month and a little on edge, have any of you guys been through it?

I've had both eyes done and its inconvenient as Hell but it was well worth doing. I went from legally blind when I wasn't wearing my glasses to better than 30/20 vision. The only bad thing is that super expensive eye drops that you have to use to prevent infection. They won't do both eyes at the time because if something goes wrong, you'll be blind in both eyes. They did mine about 1 month apart. I don't know what kind of medicine they gave me but I remember having a perfectly normal conversation with the Doctor but didn't feel the device that holds your eye open, and everything was pitch black. It was really odd that I felt fully awake but was totally blind. After a couple of minutes, the Doctor told me that I had to stop talking to him because talking would cause my head to move slightly and that could mess up the work he was about to do. OK, so then I shut up until the operation was over.

FiL had both eyes done at once.  Had cataracts removed and lenses put in.  He wore Full Coverage shades for a week or so, no problems thereafter.  Vision well improved with no problems.

They are doing both mine a day apart. Apparently that process has been perfected here in AK since its such a huge sate and only one, maybe two places to get it done.

Did you get a shot in your eyeball or just the drops?

Grizz: I have no idea as to a Shot or Eye Drops. Once I left the waiting room, I don't remember anything other than everything being Black and me talking to the Doctor. I don't even remember what happened after they finished. I do remember walking back out to the car and wearing an eye patch over my eye. The wife drove me home. The second eye was pretty much the same as the first. As best I can recall, I had it done in 2010.

Had both eyes done about 5 years ago, 2 weeks apart. Splurged for the better lenses- its well worth the extra $. Recovery is simple, just follow the instructions and dont rush. Buy a cheap eye patch from Amazon or similar.
I had no idea how bad my eyesight had gotten; post surgery was like seeing the world entirely differently.  My eyesight had gotten so blurry that I had to have a med tech double check most of my med draws.  Post surgery. eyesight was better than 20/20, and the glasses I had worn for a dozen years are still gathering dust in a drawer. One silly example of how bad it was- my employer had a time clock kinda thing where you thumb printed in and out. I did this every day for 3 years before surgery. I never recognized there were words on the device...

Thanks but still anxious about messing with my eyes.. I did have lasik about 23 years ago but for some reason this is messing with my head

I had cataract surgery about 5 years ago and frankly, it was about the easiest, almost pleasant surgery I've ever had.  lay back, watch the light show and then go home DO NOT RUB YOUR EYES.  Of course the fact that the surgical theatre was filled with gorgeous women helped a lot.  All I needed was a Martini and 1930's Swing music and I would have called it 'home'.

Oh and, with the new lenses and etc, I was able to toss my old glasses into the trash and the FOGGY view that I had for years was gone. The cataracts were caused by long term use of high doses of prednisone.

Well worth it.

Grizz: I just saw your post about having had LASIC in the past. Make sure your eye Dr. knows that. Somewhere in the past, I seem to have heard that you can't have Cataract surgery if you've had LASIC. I could be wrong, but something about that just sticks in my mind.

I mentioned that to my regular eye doc and he said it should be fine but I'll call again to confirm, Thanks
