Thoughts on the Iran situation

I'm surprised this thread hasn't been started yet...

So what is everyone's thoughts on the Iran situation?

I know they've been chanting "death to America" since the 70's, probably longer, and think we should have just nuked them but Trump backed off. I don't agree with that but trust he has slightly better intel than I ever will so I'll trust his decision for now.

It was pretty funny watching the dems go from "Trump is a war monger" to "Trump doesn't
 have the guts to respond"

Well, my position on anything going on in the Middle East is Biblical. When the SHTF for real, that's when we'll see Armageddon. I'd love to see us blow all of them off the map but the whole world will be in big trouble if and when it happens.

The NeoCons want the war to happen. The MIC want it to happen. I do not.

Is Hezbollah a threat to us both overseas and close to our shores? Absolutely.

Do I think we need a war at this point? Nope. I think a war only hurts Trump anyways.

I think Trump is playing it smart. He's waiting for a 9-11 situation to happen so the Dems will demand he take action. Then if it all goes South, he can tell them to shut up because they asked for it.

 The radical left, which is all of them wanted the President to go to war with Iran so they could use it against him at election time because the President was/is pulling troops out of the middle east. He said we should not fight their battles.
 John Kerry, when he went to Iran is probably the reason Iran started causing trouble. If they could get him to start a war then he can be defeated in 2020.

I am having trouble finding reasons for Iran to court open conflict with the US. Unless they are just convinced they can sabre rattle enough to gain concessions.

The political establishment in the West is completely broke so I am not surprised by the machinations of the different groups. They have been proven to spend the blood of the military for political gains as opposed to something sensible.

I am so tired of the whole idea of war on a budget. If there is a good reason to go to war then go all in. Total war on the scale of WWII. Just my opinion here.

I am hoping the president pulls us out of the middle East. Isolate and or blockade any bad actors in the region and let them fight each other.

I want the same, gadget, but the GOP would never allow to war in the Middle East. It is the only thing both sides seem to agree upon.

 It could be they are counting on Russia and China to come to their aid. Then again they believe if you die in a holy war you go straight to Heaven. Maybe a death wish over losing face.

Iran has pirated 2 British vessels.  One Liberian flagged, one British.  I am confident that got the British a bit concerned. 

But its British ships.  The US did not do big bad stuff against those muslims, so its not an ok responses to our meanness.  Being British, I am confident that will make things much much easier for France, Germany and all the rest over there to back and join the upcoming unpleasantries.

Either convoys and escorts or a squad or 2 of marines on each boat with a bit of air support nearby.  I suspect the latter will be more productive.

To your point Nemo, I am surprised that there isn't a squad of Para's on each oil tanker. If a boat approached a tanker within 1,000-meters they are warned. At 500-yards they are shot at.

I was wondering the same thing. It might be an insurance company thing.

Unfortunately the UK Military has been cut back so far. There is not much that could be deployed for this.
