I just confirmed this.  If you are not an NRA member, JOIN.  I don't care if you disagree with their views on some stuff, you probably agree on a fair bit also.  But making the 800 pound political gorilla in DC a 900 or 1100 pound gorilla is a good thing.

In context on Feb 12, 2018, membership was a bit under 5 million.

NRA is 6 Million Strong

If you only watch CNN and read national newspapers like The New York Times, you might think the teenage gun-ban advocates and other anti-gunners who have become overly antagonistic and hateful since the Florida school shooting in February have already won sweeping victories and seen more restrictive gun laws passed throughout the country.

And you’d be wrong.

While so-called “mainstream” media like to cover every tweet from David Hogg and fawn over every statement by Demanding Mom Shannon Watts, such “news” outlets won’t mention the unintended consequences of the new gun control push’s sometimes hateful and divisive emphasis. With Hogg saying adults “don’t know how to use a [expletive] democracy,” and others calling NRA members “terrorists” with “blood on their hands,” those who support the Second Amendment are fed up and pushing back strongly.

One of the unintended consequences you likely won’t hear about from anti-gun national media outlets is the rapid membership growth within the National Rifle Association. Since Hogg and Company have begun pushing the limits of civility in their battle against law-abiding gun owners, NRA membership has jumped to nearly 6 million, an increase of more than a million members since just before the Parkland shooting.

Here are a few more:

• NRA-ILA has seen record donations to its critical lobbying operations;

• After turning its back on law-abiding gun owners, Dick’s Sporting Goods saw sales at existing stores fall twice as much as Wall Street had expected;

• When pressed, Publix cut all political donations, not just those to groups who favor gun rights. In the past, the supermarket chain had also donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to anti-gun politicians;

• In Illinois, there are now more than a dozen counties that have adopted “Second Amendment Sanctuary County” resolutions. Meanwhile, in Oregon they’re starting to push similar referendums in at least two counties.

• Many gun-rights supporters destroyed expensive Yeti coolers when that company abruptly cancelled a program supporting The NRA Foundation and Friends of NRA;

• Countless gun owners swore off ever flying Delta Air Lines again, a move that will almost certainly hurt the airline’s bottom line in the future;

• President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence both visited the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Dallas to assure members that the Trump administration firmly stands on the side of the Second Amendment.

Here’s the moral of the story: Don’t listen to “mainstream” media for your news about guns and the Second Amendment. They’ll only tell you what they want you to hear—and it will seldom be positive toward guns and gun owners.

While I like the idea of having a Gun Advocacy group, I don't like what they do with the money they constantly beg for. I was a Member of the NRA for 5 years and they sent me a magazine that did nothing but tell me what I already knew instead of educating the general public. The weekly phone calls asking for donations drove me nuts because those donations seemed to go straight to the NRA CEO's salary. In 2015, Wayne LaPierre's salary was 5.1 million dollars. Dammit!!!! He does not need to be paid $5,000,000 per year. In 1991, when he became the CEO, he was paid $190,000 and look how much his salary has grown. Anyone who wants to be a member of the NRA has my blessings and encouragement but its just not for me.

 Not taking sides but a magazine is 30 to 45 days behind what's happening so the NRA can't be faulted because of instant news on the net.

   I'm a life member of the organization, though I certainly don't agree with all of their political positions. They produce some good periodicals, and I especially enjoy reading the 'Rifleman' magazine.  This month's issue has an article about the Ruger Precision Rimfire, which has interested me for some time. 

    It's important to support all gun rights organizations, not just the NRA.

Networking is more important than OPSEC.

The left has been so successful in eroding this country because they are never afraid to network, join groups and stand up for their toxic "belief" system.

If all of us were "loud" in that way than our way of life would not be in danger at all.

I'm a Benefactor Life member NRA and about five years ago became a senior veteran life member of the California Rifle and Pistol Association.

As I understand it, each state has an organization that works in conjunction with the NRA.

With gun laws as they are in California CRPA and NRA have been a boon to me.  I purchased the "gun laws" book CRPA puts out to help figure out how to stay legal.

CRPA and NRA sued and so far have won to stop the mandatory turn in of high capacity magazines.  The information on how to comply with the recent "assault rifle" registration requirements has helped a boat load of California gun owners.  And more.

I don't begruge what people earn.  And we all make our choices on where to spend out hard earned dollars.  Mine has been well spent on these two organizations.

And no, I'm not moving just yet to a free state.  Health insurance, great grand children, the fact that I have been here my entire life (except for when I belonged to Uncle Sam), and a host of other reasons keeps me here.

I originally joined the NRA because one of the ranges I belong to requires NRA membership.

Range I belong to also requires NRA membership.  Because they tag along on the NRA insurance.  Cost is SUBSTANTIALLY less if tagging along on NRA that what it would be if the range had their own separate policy.
