ALCON,
National Intelligence Bulletin for Friday, 09 AUG 24 to follow.
Risk Levels: (1) Outlook Stable, (2) Elevated Risk, (3) Imminent Risk
(1) Outlook Stable
Food & Ag: Safety alert issued for Crecelac and Farmelac baby formula brands
after Cronobacter bacterial contamination was detected. / Beef cattle herd
remains at a 63-year low, with no indications that herds are being rebuilt.
(Analyst Comment: A shift towards rebuilding herds will result in higher
prices and possible availability issues. - R.C.)
Low Intensity Conflict: Routine levels of Israel-Palestine protest activity.
(2) Elevated Risk
Energy: DOE announced $2 billion in funding to boost electricity transmission
and distribution across 18 states. (AC: The funding adds 50 gigawatts but
will not offset projections that 100 gigawatts of power generation will
be lost in the mid-Atlantic and South regions alone. Regional power shortages
expected starting next year. - R.C.)
Econ & Finance: Goldman Sachs Economic Research raised their 12-month recession
outlook to 25%, up from 15%. (AC: Goldman?s 12-month recession outlook
is significantly lower than the market implied probability of 41%. JPMorgan
Chase CEO Jamie Dimon forecasts a 65% chance of recession next year. Consecutive
rate cuts later this year should delay substantial concerns until after
the election. - M.S.)
Geostrategic - NATO: German defense officials continue to warn of an armed
conflict with Russia as soon as 2029, although some European NATO countries
believe it could happen sooner. (AC: The European and Pacific theaters of
WWIII could coincide, beginning in 2027-2029. - M.S.)
Geostrategic - INDO-PACIFIC: South Korea is debating whether or not to develop
its own nuclear weapons. / North Korean media reports that the government
moved 250 ballistic missile launchers to the border with South Korea on
Sunday, reinforcing the border with potentially 1,000 extra missiles.
(3) Imminent Risk
Geostrategic - MIDDLE EAST: U.S. Central Command?s General Michael Kurilla
made a second trip to Israel in a week to coordinate a security/defense
plan with Israeli Defense Force Chief General Herzi Halevi. / U.S. officials
warned earlier this week that Iran is preparing rocket launchers for a possible
attack on Israel. Numerous countries have removed embassy staff over a possible
Iranian reprisal. (AC: The most dangerous scenario remains a mass casualty
attack by Iran that leads to full-scale war with Israel, however, I doubt
this is the most likely course of action. - M.S.)
This is a public service of the Early Warning Network. Nothing follows.
