IF J.D. Vance becomes VP, his Ohio Senator's seat is then filled by Republican Governor Mike DeWine.
Vivek Ramaswamy is a resident of Ohio...
But what if Trump is nominated and is on the ticket with Vance as VP but fails to survive to election day... does Vance continue on to become President if the ticket wins? (assuming they don't manage to whack Vance as well)

As best I understand Election law, yes, the VP running mate takes his place and election contributions also fall to the VP Running mate.

DeWine is Gov. Born 1947. He was Senator for 12 years (2 terms) prior to being defeated by Sherrod Brown in 06. Elected Gov in 18. Has 2 more years there. I think he would not be interested in going back to the Senate.
But he could appoint Ramaswamy. That would be good, IMHO.
