Title: How federal grand juries work
Post by: RB in GA on September 06, 2023, 03:46:13 PM
At the risk of irritating a bunch of folks I thought I'd provide a federal document for educational purposes. Note that this is not a direct link, you will have to copy and paste into your search bar

When people talk about federal prosecutions, they really need to remember that whatever the crime alleged, a minimum of 12 (out of a maximum of 23) randomly chosen citizens have to agree that prosecution is warranted. (i.e. a majority).  Having served on one of these, it is a truly a random selection, as no prosecutor in his right mind would have picked me for jurist. :)

I think everyone who chimes in with an opinion on an indictment needs to at least consider this.  Yes, in certain locales you are more likely to receive an true bill on certain alleged crimes than in others, but is far from a guarantee. (https://www.uscourts.gov)
