It would appear that a lot of folks are starting to get nervous.
« on: September 10, 2024, 05:32:14 PM »
In the past few days, I've noticed that post on here have become more serious as to how to survive what's coming. Yep, we all have known for quite a while that this will end badly but we couldn't nail down exactly what the "BADLY" would be. What I've seen are post that seemed to focus on one or two bad scenarios. Things like, no electrical power, no gasoline, unbearable inflation, possible war (Civil or Worldwide), massive Civil unrest, blah, blah, blah and the list goes on. My preps have been, from the beginning, for all of the above. Lately, I'm seeing more and more of us on this site, begin to talk about more than one subject. How does that affect me? I'm delighted to see folks talking about all of the possibilities in one post. What that signals to me is we are all getting really serious about the coming cloud of doom. I truly hope that we Preppers come out of this mess alive and well. The sad thing that distresses me is all those poor SHEEPLE who ignored the idea of preparing for this because they had an incurable case of Normalcy Bias. Many Preppers have focused on having everything they think they will need but have ignored Gold and Silver. OK, if you are rich and become a Gold Bug, then go for it. If you are like me, you'll need to be a Silver Stacker. If you are poor, please don't overlook the value of Base Metals like Copper, Nickel, Zink, and Lead. Oh Hell, you might as well throw in Aluminum. I have been collecting pre 1982 Copper Pennies and all Nickels in one location and all the new coins in another location. Even those awful Zinc pennies with a copper plating will have at least some value. The new Dimes and Quarters that are Copper, with a Nickel coating will have at least some value when the paper money becomes toilet paper. I honestly think that the coming hyperinflation will have people wanting coins instead of any form of paper or digital money. As for Digital Currency (CBDC), I plan to never involve myself in that BS. Anyway, my main point is that I'm delighted to see we Preppers becoming more diversified.

My ex (married 35 years, divorce final a little over a year now) is doubling down on Normalcy.   And from my perch, it looks like she is traveling in company.   Birds of a feather sticking together.   Flagstaff has no shortage of "Liberals", I am literally surrounded by them.
What IS it that drives people to reflexively and determinably _reject_ any "Prepper" tenets?
The darker the skies become with black swans circling overhead, the more adamant they are of insisting of nothing but rainbows and unicorns.
Boomers include ranks of weak people formed by good times?  Their group-think impervious to evidences that challenge how they want things to be...

All good comments gentlemen.

What we are facing is evil. Looking at Kamala Harris last night MrsMac commented that she looked like The Joker of Batman fame. She also said at one point during the debate, "that is the face of pure evil".

"Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times." - G. Michael Hopf

As preppers our task is to prepare ourselves so we will be around to help guide civilization back to reality. Us old coots will be the saving grace for our children in the end. This is why I push the MAG concept so hard. No matter how small, we have to start somewhere.

Be of good cheer, we are doing God's work although it might not seem so at this time.

Yes, the 'normalcy bias' is too comforting a phrase for the rejection of even basic preps, as our grandparents would have called a normal pantry. I see it on ham radio forums, when the question arises of the usefulness of radio during a grid down or other situation and while some respond with ideas, many simply blither on about "doomsday preppers", tin foil, orange vests and say things like "in a nuke attack we are all going to die , so why prep ?" and more.  I find it interesting that finding the TV watchers in the mob is very easy , by their canned phraseology.

However, does it hurt my wife and I to have a small, but productive garden ?  We home can the excess harvest (it's delicious), we pressure can beef, usually in ginger garlic paste with sliced onions and etc. ( again, REALLY delicious) and if we loose power to the refrigeration, we plan to just pressure can all of the rest - after a huge feast!

To me, anyone who is so fearful that they can't even listen to a discussion of a just-in-case scenario is showing symnptoms of their own internal phobias, not in keeping with healthy living.

As for food preps, if we are totally wrong and the food chain continues as is, we can always eat our 'mistakes'. The burritos we made two weeks ago, using our garden peppers, pressure canned ground beef and etc. we deliciour, whether the power is on or off.

Remember, fearful people are dangerous people.

Enjoy life, have a good garden and pantry and occasionally go fishing with grand kids. If this is weird to lefties, let it be so.

Prepper or Survivalist ?

A Prepper keeps survival rations for his pets.

A Survivalist  keeps pets as survival rations.
