On this day 23 years ago, the People's Liberation Army attacked protesters in Tianamen Square. The incident sparked world-wide condemnation of the Chinese government. It was forever immortalized by the image of a single man (who has never been identified) standing against a column of tanks.

The exact number of dead and wounded has remained a subject of debate. It's estimated to be in the hundreds if not thousands.

At least when an M1 Abrams runs you over it looks damn good doing it.
