Snow Storm

Uh Oh..... I looked at one of the You Tube weather gurus and he showed me that I've got a monster second snow storm headed my way this weekend. Moisture from the Gulf is moving North and will collide with extreme cold that's moving South and then that collision will race straight toward me. The guy was talking about 7 inches with severe cold temperatures. Well, as long as I can drive on the roads, I think I'll do OK, but who knows until it happens. :facepalm:

Yeah, the Weather Service has already issued a winter storm watch for middle Tennessee for Friday-Saturday. Calling for 7+ inches.  It may end up being the first time I?ve had to shovel in five years. I may need to start up the tractor so I can use the plow and lessen the need for shoveling.  With the Hummer there?s really no need for plowing, but I need to keep the driveway open for my wife?s little SUV.  The dogs are going to love the snow and it?ll give me a chance to do some sledding. :thumbsUp: :dancingBanana:

It snows every day here. 1-3" thanks to lake-effect snow.

Nah, George Flickinger (local weather guru) says 1-3 powdery (maybe) Fri evening 7 to Sat 10am.

No big deal.

And middle TN is now under a winter storm warning.  Schools have been closed all week due to a dusting we had Sunday evening.  Local folks are in a panic because they might see some accumulation. Unbelievable!

Heck Jackalope, not like living in central NY huh?

Let's see...It has never gotten above 19F here and at night drops into the high single digits to low teens. It snows everyday on the average about 2". Wind has been out of the North-Northwest at 5-10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Schools at worst are being delayed by 1-2 hrs. each day. Mostly functioning as normal.

Folks up around the I-90 cross state thruway are receiving 6-12" of lake-effect snow a day with similar temps and wind.

Usually this time of year we use 15 or so logs a day for the wood stove. This week we are using 22 a day.

I do realize that the snow you are getting below the Mason Dixon Line is an anomaly, however, come on, it's only a few inches.  :facepalm:

PS: Our mail lady has delivered our mail each & every day. Yes, she is running a Jeep with chains BUT she is making it.  :thumbsUp:

I don't envy you guys one bit.  I moved to FL to get away from that.  I can't imagine the chaos if we got 1/2 an inch of snow here.   8)

I lived in Dade City FL, (40 miles N of Tampa) from Nov 04 to Jan 11.  We had snow once where it was down to about 28F and about an inch of slippery ice and white powder topping.

Until about 11am the locals were freaking out going wild on the roads and the snowbirds were laughing at everything.  By 11 things were wet and gone.

   The storm in my part of middle Tennessee was a nothing burger.  We?ve gotten maybe two inches of snow, not enough to shovel, which is good!  However, the road conditions suck, so we?ll hunker down and watch our dog pack play in the snow we did receive.  Everyday can be a snow day if you?re retired!

In Virginia, we only got a couple more inches of snow last night. It is beautiful. I've been driving secondary roads to get my daughter to the horse barn and they are not good. Thankful to have a Jeep and 4-wheel drive, it helps! I saw a good video yesterday by a green beret about wound closure in the field using duct tape, bank line cord, a sail cloth needle and thread. I had to look up bank line cord to find out what it was, looks like this method would work great. You line up the tape with a bit of bank line cord for support on each side of the wound and then make stitches from one piece of tape to the next piece of tape. It helps approximate wound edges and allows the wound to drain.

I ended with about 2.5 inches of light powder perfect skiing snow.  It covered the packed snow and ice on the driveways and grass with some on roads.  The roads were variable due to the lightness and blowing of the snow.

No real problems generally.

Go about ~55 mi. due north of our house and it is snowing.  Not much, and I don't know if it is sticking.  At least it wasn't when they showed Tallahassee on the evening news, but it may be by now.. 
Lafayette, LA got 10.5 in. (blizzard warning there!).  Just rain here, but it will be freezing 0400-0500 so we could get some freezing rain.  Schools around here are all closed for tomorrow.

I won't go so far as to say people are losing their sh!t, but it has got their attention.  I will check the road tomorrow AM, if it's icy I will stay home.   8)

I know this will be small potatoes to you fellows up north, but the last freezing rain in this area was 1989, before we moved here.

   We got a few flurries from that storm, Cooter.  But it?s been extremely cold, the forecast is for 0 F tonight, which is very unusual.  The kids in the county haven?t had school since December 20th, due to winter vacation and winter weather.

I hear parts of TN really got dumped on with this latest storm.
 
Temp was 35 when I got up at 0500 and the rain had stopped.  But the weather shaman  says we could still get some flurries this morning.  Last night some town near Pensicola got 8.8 in.  The old record for FL was 4 in.

So we lucked out again.  Just going to be 40's in the day and at/below freezing at night for the next couple days.  I wish you guys would hurry up and buy electric cars so we can stop global warming.  ;)
