This development is not receiving the importance that it should in the MSM

Quote
SEOUL (Reuters) -Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a deal with North Korea's Kim Jong Un on Wednesday that included a mutual defense pledge, one of Russia's most significant moves in Asia for years that Kim said amounted to an "alliance".

Putin's pledge overhauls Russia's entire post-Soviet policy on North Korea just as the United States and its Asian allies try to gauge how far Russia could deepen support for the only country to have tested a nuclear weapon this century. - Microsoft News

IMO, this is big, BIG, news. Bottom-line, Putin is in the process of getting his ducks in a row for war. He is crossing his 'T's' and dotting his 'I's'.

As a side note, if we launch a missile or two towards Russia or N. Korea, they go over China territory to reach them. Remember that in May, Putin visited China? Yes, Putin has gone hat in hand to visit Xi and Kim. One visit was to sure up defenses and one was to buy military hardware support.

Back a million years ago I use to give a speech to store managers holding up a length of chain and saying, "we are only as strong as the weakest length". Then pulling apart the chain due to a already cut and taped link. Okay, ok yes it is corny, however, our weakest link now is President Biden.

Please plan for the inevitable. Anybody know a good book on nuclear preparedness?

I'll second that regarding Nuclear War Survival Skills. It is truly a classic on the subject. Definitely get the hard copy - but if, for some reason, you can't, at least be sure to get the PDF copy. It's a free download here - https://www.oism.org/nwss/  It's not the latest updated version, but still a classic.

Thank you for the links (both hard copy and pdf).
Looking through the table of contents, a couple of things came to mind.
1) a large scale exchange would have environmental consequences that would make many wish they had been at ground zero.     See: "Nuclear Winter"... a review of how long eco-systems are estimated to have taken for recovery after the Chicxulub impact might offer a reasonable analog.    And once started, wars of such nature require combatants to go "all in".   If the dam of MAD is breached... One pops, they'll all pop.  Eventually.
2) "Sheltering in place" is the only option if one survives the initial onslaught.   And dealing with the relatively "short-lived" local ionizing radiation is something I'd guess only a relatively few will have to face, while ALL of us will see increased levels from tropospheric and stratospheric exposures (Though as in "On the Beach", Australia and New Zealand would be the last, best spots to remain uncontaminated)   Blocking thyroid uptake helpful but no magic bullet.
3) Preps will be key.  The one-eyed man being king in a land of the blind.   What we do against the day when normalcy evaporates provides the seed for recovery.   Even if the dinosaurs didn't make the cut, life itself did.   As will those who can be flexible and work to maintain themselves in disaster.

Another great read... "A Canticle For Liebowitz"    by Walter M.Miller Jr.   Let not his or his novel's ending deter hope.   For hope is that bridge we must always look to lest all be for naught.

A note regarding thyroid blocking: The type of cancer that this protects against is a very slow-growing, long-term cancer. No cancer is good, of course, but my supply of it is reserved for the young ones in the family, and not for me. At my age (70) it would make no difference.
