Title: The Colony (tv series)
Post by: thedigininja on June 12, 2015, 08:35:49 AM
I don't see a thread on this.

I just rewatched the 2 seasons of this show from 2009/2010 and thought that I would bring it to the attention of anyone who isn't familiar with it. Unfortunately, even though it hasn't been officially cancelled, it's unlikely that we'll see another season since the death of a test subject while filming season 3 lead to it being put "on hold" for the last 5 years.

For those who don't know it's a Big Brother style experiment where a number of strangers are thrown into a mock SHTF scenario to see how well they would survive over 3 months.

Even though season 1 was, what I would call, a perfect world post apoc situation where they had a warehouse full of tools and supplies and were a group of engineers, fabricators, medical professionals and a self-defense instructor it was probably the most useful or informative.

Season 2 had a number of good ideas but had a more likely setting and group, including a model and an artist.

Some good ideas but poorly made and acted IMO.

Can you link to the subjects death. The wife will want to read about it, we had a good time watching that show together.

Reaver, I didn't save the link. She can just Google "the colony season 3 death" and there will be dozens of articles but not a lot of detail was published. I just know that 1 participant took a serious blow to the head during a raid and then fell to his death down a flight of stairs.

As you said it was very well made and the participants in season 2 annoyed the crap out of me but it was good watching and the 1st time that I was introduced to wood gas as a power source (I'm sad to say).

I dunno it's real sketchy. Some are saying that entire event never even happened and S3 never even started filming.
