Title: Movie Thread!
Post by: Burt Gummer on April 10, 2014, 08:50:48 AM
So to my surprise there's no Movie Topic!

I think we all know when we see a "prepper movie" where you think to yourself:
"hey that's a good idea" or "i'm totally better off that him!"
That's what you want to list here! What ever got those gears in your head moving, what made you want to go over your bag "just one more time".

Try and include a picture/link/video for us lazy bums...

I'll start and list a few.

Survivors of a nuclear attack are grouped together for days in the basement of their apartment building, where fear and dwindling supplies wear away at their dynamic.

To me this was the "black hawk down" of bunker mentality. A movie about what not to do, for it get's bad guys, REAL bad.
The term "Social Devolution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devolution_%28biology%29)" comes to mind.

Post apocalyptic suspense thriller I just watched and enjoyed because It wouldn't allow me to predict the ending. The normalcy bias cuts both ways in this case.

We will check another one of Burts suggestions tonight.

Don't listen to the trailer guy he's an idiot. It's a foreign french flick about Crooked cops that go and raid some not so nice immigrant drug dealers in an old semi abandoned apartment building in Paris. Consequentially a zombie-pocalypse happens. And so guns get shot, people get bit, more guns get shot, more people die, Ok a lot of fucking guns get shot, (did I mention this is france? :o)
I like the film because these French guys bought the creep & gore back into zombie movies (or maybe I'm just desensitized).

A controlled social psychological & physical experiment filmed for your viewing pleasure. There's 2 seasons but only the 1st one is worth watching. It setting is a group of survivors band together in an urban area after a biological catastrophe decimates the population. They provide for their own food & water, shelter, facilities, medical treatment and of course security. These are real people not actors.
And a internet cookie to whom ever guesses which one of them is now a   :bagpack:    prepper / treeper. :boltAction2:

I can't say the plot is very thick in this movie, but I'm glad I watched it because it had a decent budget and Laurence Fishburne comes off as a good raggedy bad ass. Also it seemed to me that it had a larger metaphorical lining with the different factions representing different aspects of society today.

The Colony actor who is now a prepper/threeper is Michael Raines (https://www.facebook.com/BigDumbMonky). I'm friends with him on FB, and let me tell ya - his posts are no less aggressive in favor of liberty than his outbursts on the show were in favor of common sense.

I watched that whole season a couple of years ago, and I was just amazed at how unrealistic it was. The BIGGEST key aspect is fear of other people and violence, and I'm not convinced that those guys didn't understand that no one could legally hurt them, intentionally.

This movie had me cheering at my monitor, and clenching my couch cushion the plot is thick the characters are deep and original and it's a massive allegory for the human condition and potential ranging from the dark to heroic. Unsurprisingly this only got a partial US release, the controversial  parts cut ofcource for us dumb Americans. The link will be to the full international version.

Copy & Paste the following for Torrent  :advance:

Side Note: This version was not intended for US release so there is a small amount of Korean dialogue left un-subtitled any of you planning on watching it on your computer can import a subtitle track to  the movie as needed. This only affects 0.1% of the film.

I've written this one up for a 50+ guy.

Learning to Torrent in 8 Easy Steps

1st -
Download the BitTorrent program (It's the one I use) fuck Norton it's safe.
http://www.bittorrent.com/ (http://www.bittorrent.com/)
Note: some Anti Virus developers are paid to see certain software (cracks / torrent programs) as harmful because of they are reduce profits from other companies .
Note: A Torrent site doesn't actually have the data you want, It's just a collection of “Get this here”direction signs.

2nd -
Go to the most user friendly torrent site: The Pirate Bay at: http://thepiratebay.se/ (http://thepiratebay.se/)
Due to it's outside of the legal framework role it is often targeted and it's IP address is shut down until their army of lawyers get's it returned, or moves it's self to an other Address.
There are other Torrent sites but they are not as user friendly and slightly less secure. such as:
http://kickass.to/. (http://kickass.to/.)

3rd -
Search for the data you want. (There's a lot) so beware or  you'll might end up with a dubbed    Indian version of the blues brothers.
Also due to it's legal & free status the site tends to have some pretty bottom of the barrel    unsavory advertizing NSFW (like a real pirate bay! ;D)
A popup blocker is helpful although they don't do anything too intrusive like a chain of windows.

4th -
A torrent's download speed also known as "strength" is derived from the amount of people that are "Seeding" {SE} (sending data) and those like yourself who are "Leaching" {LE} (receiving data).
A torrent that has {SE 1000} & {LE 200} is a healthy torrent and you should be able to download that in good time.
While a torrent has {SE 6} & {LE 500} Is not strong enough yet, prepare to wait the better part of a day.

5th -
Find your healthy Torrent click on the link and See whether the specifics are to your liking. If they are, click the link: {Get Torrent} and your BitTorrent program should react with the site and start up on it's own or. if not pick it from the list of available programs.
Note: Other sites can do this differently by downloading a file, which you then open with BitTorrent.

6th -

A second window will load in your program (this might take a sec) in it will be a check list of everything that's in that torrent. Un-check anything you don't want or find suspicious. Then click {OK}.
Note: A list of file extensions should be helpful with that.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_file_formats_%28alphabetical%29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_file_formats_%28alphabetical%29)
In short you want files that end in extensions such as: .AVI or .JPG and not .EXE or .RAR

7th -

You will then see your torrent downloading and your {ETA} (how long until it's done) also the speed at which you are uploading that same data "seeding"
Once done you can leave your program on and let it continue seeding that torrent. (this is how    you got it to begin with) so it's kind of an internet courtesy thing. You can also close the window and it will continue to run in the back ground unaffected.

8th -
Once you don't want it any more, right click the Torrent select {Remove Torrent + Data} and everything is gone.

Any questions just ask.

I watched this a few months back.

THE GOOD:  It's well produced, acted, etc, and the story definitely keeps you interested.

THE BAD:  The final lesson put forth in the story is the antithesis of prepping; by teaching that the entire human species is not worth lifting a finger to save, so therefore everyone should live out their lives with no thought of the future... basically promoting the environmental extremist ideology that "humans are a plague upon earth and should therefore go extinct."

That being said it is worth a watch, but I wouldn't pay a ¢ for it because I refuse to vote for such an ideology with my precious pennies.

After the second situation played out, I told MrsMac that I was going to bed. She replied, "you have sat there for 2/3 of this dog...Come on finish it with me." Well being the exceptional loving husband that I am; I grabbed a half a glass of wine and did.

So did the professor commit suicide in the end or not?

PS: Crudos, thx for the recommendation of the movie. Our reviews should not deter you from other suggestions.

Not to worry JM, still plan on posting all kinds of slop, junk, and non-substantive stuff, just like I usually do!  ;)

A man struggles with memories of his past, including a wife he cannot remember, in a nightmarish world with no sun and run by beings with telekinetic powers who seek the souls of humans.

Released a year before the origional matrix, this movie's concept is similar if not more unnerving, the protagonist must distrust everything he knows in order to get at the truth and eventually set himself free of the conspiracy that hunts him.

Copy & Paste the following for Torrent :advance:

Remnants, do you remember that movie? That was very similar to "Lights out" and that probably you are fucking tired of waiting...
Well you can watch it downloading a copy from thePirateBay. I didn't watch it yet.

MrsMc and I watched Remnants last night. We ordered/downloaded it from Amazon.com for $2.99.

For the price of a draft beer, it was worth it - Only barely though.

I was more amused by the comments from MrsMac during the movie then the movie to be be quite frank. Some of her comments were:

> Why isn't the community running patrols,
> Why is the community demanding that all households hand over their food to the community good and then store in
a central location. Kind of, "all of your eggs in one basket" kind of thing
> Etcetera...

On a JohnyMac scale of 1-5 with 5 being outstanding this was a solid "2.0" a perfect mid-week movie with little to no thought.
