Title: California gun laws, what to do?
Post by: Kentactic on July 04, 2017, 04:47:40 PM
So as you may have heard, CA has signed some interesting gun bills into law recently. Ammo registration, magazine bans and revisions to an existing "assault weapons" ban to name a few.

I thought I'd crowd source for ideas on how to combat this. Please keep in mind that I don't find fleeing to a safer place to be a constructive idea whatsoever. Anyone got any ideas? Write a letter to Santa perhaps?

File suit that your constitutional liberties have been violated. Hell if minorities can do it why can't you.

I'm assuming the NRA and/or Calguns has already done this and they have more funding than myself. I could be wrong though.

Thanks for the response either way.

They have.  The state held from becoming effective something that affects magazines and such.  Not sure how.  I did not have long to get the idea of it before I had to close the laptop.

As far as  Calguns and/or the NRA and/or Second Amendment Foundation, are you a member?  If not, why the hail not?????  You dayum sure need to join.  There is strength and numbers and thats why the NRA is the 800 pound gorilla on the block.  5 Million dues paying members.  Thats why much of the govt listens.  AND pays attention.

I'm not a member of the NRA because I look for a return from my service providers rather than social status from its membership. Simple as that.

OK, Second Amendment Foundation.  Try them.

As far as investment return from the NRA, I kinda like the idea of an 800 pound gorilla fighting against the idea of limiting the 2A.  Besides they are the driving factor in the general "constitutional carry" idea that has started and passed the state legislature in 12 or 13 states.

But tell you what, join one of them for a year.  Scan a copy of your membership card and I will reimburse you that membership fee.  i think the info they share on what they do will convince you to keep your membership going.

NRA or 2A Foundation, your pick.

The old, we have to pass the bill so we can find out what's in it routine? I appreciate the offer. Show me a track record of services rendered and I'll pay for my own membership. I'll probably throw the card away but I'll give them my money to keep them working for me.

I don't know - you live in an area where people are more afraid of each other than the gvt.

Technically I live in an area where nobody even locks their front doors but that isn't the norm for the whole state obviously. I'm definitely not moving again. At least not out of state.

The NRA?

5 Million adult members.  Vast majority are single issue voters.  hiLIARy won general election by 3 million. PA was a key (Keystone) in it.  Alot of NRA members there.  Same with Michigan.  And Florida.  SCOTUS and  McDonald or Heller.  For starters.

As far as passing the bill to see whats it in, pass the bill at no cost to you.  No better deal anywhere.

The US District Court of Lower CA., just made a ruling temporarily overturning the new firearm magazine law that was supposed to go into affect on July 1, 2017.

Wrong right or indifferent Ken, you have to fight 2A restrictions in the courts, vote the bum's out (Will not happen in CA.), or put on your walking shoes which you did once before.

On another note: Good to hear you are still out there

Thanks for the article link. Like you said, voting and court battles are pointless. I'm not moving any time soon though. I like everything about CA except a handful of laws that places like San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento push through.

While the legal fights over the different passed laws is going on I can offer a small suggestion.

Explore and capitalise on the things that are still legal.

That is what I have had to do living in the UK. While I may not like the fact that firearms are pretty much not going to be an option. I have concentrated on capitalising on what is available.

In some cases there are sense benefits to be had. For the price of a good AR. A family can procure, maintain and supply a pretty good archery setup.

I was honestly hoping to hear some of those Patriotic ideas. Did your forefathers move to Mexico when the laws got tyrannical? Everyone says it won't happen in their state but ain't nobody got any action taking in them so it absolutely will happen in every state. Imagine your state is what is happening in CA. What the fuck are you going to do? Move? Buy a crossbow?...

Keep your shit locked and loaded. Buy mags and ammo when you train in Arizona or Nevada. Start hand loading. Keep a bug out bag stocked and ready along w a get away plan. Build your connections now. Shit will hit the fan.

If not in the country, at least in California. They are going to socialize healthcare which is a major part of California's economy. Study other groups in history that started successful rebellions to various degrees.

If the shit hits the fan, isn't my topic irrelevant? I am trying to think of solutions to this problem while society is intact.

Years ago I accepted the fact that there's a great chance that America will continue on in a boring oppressive way for the remainder of my life. I'm not afraid to die and so I've pretty much lost interest in such extensive preparations for a potential outcome. The worst thing that can happen is we die. You've got kids? Okay, that's different for some. Nobody will make it to the finish line though. Why spend our lives worried about dying a little bit earlier? The future is never ours. We only have this present moment.

But anyways, I'm still interested in any possible solutions to oppressive laws.

Your looking for an answer with the sun in your right eye and your left eye closed. You don't want to move that's OK so the only answer is to get involved in politics. Either run for state office or work for someone who believes as you do. If you can't or won't do that then donate heavily or  become a bundler. This may sound hokey but that's all you got.

I have several FB friends who were and continue to be devastated that Mr. Trump won the Presidential election. They have lived on the hope he will be impeached since January 20th to only finally figure out - It ain't going to happen.

During these 6Plus months I kept telling them that they need to turn their Trump hatred towards something more positive. My suggestion was and still is "local politics".

After my multi-month mantra they get it!

Now on the subject of prepping: It is not necessarily all about living a day or two longer; However, for MrsMac and I, deciding how we will die. After all, in the end we all die.

You come off as totally frustrated and I can understand that having lived 22yrs in NY city. You feel your between a rock and a hard place and you are. The only way to change the situation is to get involved in politics either personally or financially. I was not trying to insult you only to give you my point of view. Sorry if you took it that way.

I wasn't insulted in the least sir and I'm not really frustrated either to be honest. I was just curious if your statement had meaning to you in relation to my situation or if it's fun to say.

I understand the magazine ban has been slapped down for now.

Some things some people might do that make sense:

- Keep one full up, fully featured non-Cali-legal AR15 zeroed w/ reliable optic cached.
- Keep one Cali legal in your house for minor training.
- Go to neighboring states for serious carbine classes and rent their rifle.
- Buy ammo in neighboring states and cache it w/ cache rifle. (Ammo that is EXCELLENT for caching is this http://www.sgammo.com/product/223-556mm-ammo/1000-round-case-223-rem-56-grain-fmj-golden-tiger-steel-case-ammo-made-vympe-0 (http://www.sgammo.com/product/223-556mm-ammo/1000-round-case-223-rem-56-grain-fmj-golden-tiger-steel-case-ammo-made-vympe-0)  .....this is the new production batch where you DONT have to upgrade your firing pin/hammer spring for a hard primer.. accurate, laquered, bullet neck and primer nicely sealed a la russian mil spec. )

This way you can train and keep some minor combat power in your house.. but when there is a power outage and the orcs are killing everyone for food/water you get your cache rifle and are ready-to-go.
Also may not hurt to keep some spare jerry cans around while you're at it if you live in a densely populated area ( I do)

I prefer my M1A over an AR personally. If I wanted to go non-compliant, I'd go with an AK. The only theoretically illegal thing that might exist with an M1A would be having full-cap mags after the new law goes through.

But of course none of this helps fight laws. It just ensures I spend money on crap I bury in the ground. It might be more efficient toward that end, to just bury the money itself.

Out of curiosity though, why bury guns and what's the "dig it up" triggering event?

" why bury guns and what's the "dig it up" triggering event?"

That's my friend is the million dollar question. Maybe the question might be When is the time to bury them. I personally don't have the money for a second set of guns to bury.

So is it a good thing or bad thing if you have a PVC 8inch pipe buried containing a 10-22, a ghost AR and a Hi Point 9mm?  Along with 500 round of 22 ammo and 250 rounds 5.56 and 200 9mm.  8x8x4 mags in order listed

All in vacuum sealed bags with O2 absorbers and weapons are well oiled.  Some other related miscellaneous stuff in the pipe with them.  Pipe had a fair quantity of dry ice in the bottom and the seal cap was glued on when it has stopped putting out enough to push the cap off.  Buried not far from home, but not at home.  Equilateral triangle on right of second and 3rd trees and you are standing on it.  Related kit on left side of tree 1 and 2.

Amazing amount of stuff you can get in a 6 foot pipe.  Especially when the wife says you need to let some go to reduce the pile in the house.

Here's something you might not have thought of: Your hiding place should be easy to find with a metal detector. Get about 4 rolls of pennies(after 1982 they are zinc with copper plating), a tube of steel BB's, and some 1/4 inch rolled up balls of aluminum foil and throw the mixture all over the yard. The lawn mower shouldn't hit them and if anybody ever tries to find your stash, they'll get about 500 metal detector hits. That ought to make most folks give up.

I bought a giant pack of 10 of those 500 count boxes once.  I sure wish I could remember where they got put.  Knowing my wife she could have throwed them out the back door somewhere.

This seems way off topic at this point but anyone who uses a metal detector regularly, can tell the difference between a penny on the surface and a big hunk of metal 3ft deep.

If you think someone is going to look for your stash, the rule of thumb is about  $1k per foot for a detector to reliably read and discern objects. So if you're 6 feet down, you might be safe. Or at least safer.

so take Nemo's idea and salt the yard with metal.  dig your cache and park your wood pile /compost heap/ water barrel/ patio bricks/ garden, et.al. on top of it.  an old WWII story, a cache was hidden under a drive way parking pad so the 'visitors' would park on top of what they were looking for.
