Hello to all on the board.
I am from the Western Cape in SA, and although relatively new to prepping, I have always felt like the outsider trying to prepare for things nobody thought would happen.
With the latest elections behind us and no major havoc, I want to remain positive, but unrest and pillaging of stores is a reality here, so I know in a SHTF senario I will need to do some prepping.
Hoping to learn a lot here.

Hello and Welcome!

Greetings and Salutations Good Sir, Hail and Well Met. You may be surprised but we actually have a couple folks around here from your area.

Welcome Bens to Unchainedpreppers! :bravo:
We have quite a few folks from southern African countries and they all seem to be getting ready for some turmoil.
Don't hesitate jumping in if you want to share some knowledge or ask a question. The archives are full of some great stuff too.

Thank you for the the welcome.
I have seen that there are some SA guys on the board.
Lots and lots of reading ahead of me, and the questions will come as they pop up

Welcome aboard!

You say "relatively new". Completely green or have you started putting some preps together yet? We love reading about other people's progress.

I guess I did not read your first post in sufficient detail. I missed the "relatively" word.
My thoughts, first 3 things you need are about equal and you should have them from day one.
Those 3 are-- a good knife, a good fire starting spark stick and a good book on survival, related to your area specifically if possible. Then you keep the knife and spark stick handy and read the book several times. You will learn new things each time you read it.
I suspect most here would disagree with me on one or 2 of those 3 but I also suspect we will all agree on 1 or 2 of them.

If you're relying on a book on day one... you're already fucked before leaving the starting line. Something like a tarp, or some cordage, or a boiling pot (all depending on your location) would be a better option. [IMHFO]

SK. I may be completely wrong here but I think what Nemo was suggesting, in his ol' timey way, was gain information.
All the tools in the world will be completely useless if you have no idea how to use them.
And in a pinch, books are great for starting fires.
As a side note. A good knife and cordage, ALWAYS.
I've ditched my tarp and replaced it Mylar blankets.

i seem to remember an old saying;
practicality trumps style
skill trumps passion
knowledge trumps gear
or some such.

I like that one Kbop. I think I'll keep it.
