A South African greeting.
« on: June 15, 2014, 10:20:42 PM »
It seems to me that this is a predominantly American forums as I haven't seen any of my own around.

I am a South African suburban prepper with limited resources doing what I can to prepare.
Am I certain that we will face an end of the world scenario in our lifetime? No.
Do I want to be caught with my pants down if it does happen? Not a chance.
Well I don't want to give up too much because what will I have to talk about later? So I'm going to snoop around a bit and hopefully I get to chat to some of you soon.

I have been a prepper for as long as I can remember although I only found out recently that there was a word for it, before everyone just called me paranoid.

Coming from a combat oriented family I've had a great deal of exposure to different martial arts and fighting styles from a young age until falling in love with ninjutsu. I'm looking at studying either krav maga or kfm next although a back injury a few years ago has left me less active than I would like.

Although I am proficient with firearms, I prefer more historical weapons.

I have limited experience with explosives and combustibles and with poisons, which I've recently become interested in again.

I have also done my first 2 levels in first aid and my basic fire fighting.

My girlfriend and I are currently working on building a sustainable income from home so that we can spend more time on becoming self sustaining.

Welcome Digi, snoop to your heart's content but if you find something you like feel free to 'pay us off' with some discussion.

We grow tired of talking to ourselves :P

Welcome Ninja.
Don't be shy, insecure or intimidated. This place is what you want to make of it.
Besides most of us live on the other side of the world and like our feet on the ground.

Hi digininja,

Yes I think most people here are from the northern hemisphere, which makes sense because after SHTF they will be in deep doo doo, whereas us on the right side of the equator will be on easy street :)

Seriously though, I will be very interested in your perceptions of how things will go down in SA should you ever post about that.

Welcome Digininja!

A rather eclectic group of men & women who are sharing their journey with like minded folks as they attain Freedom Through Self-Reliance.

As many of your welcoming committee has written; don't hesitate jumping in with questions and or suggestions. Participation is a key ingredient though.  ;)

Warning though...Watch out for graynomad as it has been reported that he enjoys a grilled kangaroo out in the bush now and then!

Welcome aboard, just PM any of the staff members if you need anything and enjoy your stay.

I'm from Argentina, most of the members are from US but slowly some people from other places are appearing.

In SA we live under a constant threat of civil unrest. When I get a chance I'll start a thread highlighting some of the potential problems.

I'm also curious to see what I can take from everyone else's preps.

Yeah, I can speak Afrikaans.

Look forward to it.

I tried to get into SA in 1979 but was refused a visa because I was a photographer, go figure, I should have said I was a plumber.

Oh, and I like my roo raw, real men don't cook :)

We get several of your countrymen here in North Dakota (lots of them).  They come at spring planting and stay through fall harvest.  Apparently Americans from New Jersey and California on welfare are too lazy to move to here for high-paying work.  Francois, Stephen, Ryan, Christoff, Aubrey, and others say hi!  (Wish they would lose those darn soccer shorts, tho!)

I think that many of us have been forced to be more self reliant here than in the rest of the developed world, that's why we tend to show up all over the place picking up the jobs the locals don't want.

hahaha! In SA it's rugby shorts and I'm also not a fan, what happened to a good pair of camo longs?

I declare that no man should ever expose that much leg in public.

Things really haven't changed much here in the last 35 years, it's all just gotten a little more brown.

Must be a southern hemisphere thing, I always wear shorts during the day, maybe track pants at night if it's cold. No photos though, in the interest of not being ridiculed for the rest of my tenure here on the forum :)

With my pasty,  British like genes and the brutal African sun I don't have the option even if I had the inclination. It's full cover whenever possible.

After reading a few of the other intros I found mine to be a bit lacking so I updated it a touch.
