Someone come shoot me please. Wife made me "upgrade" my phone today and get a Samsung S-3 android smartphone. I have a HS diploma, 2 Associate Degrees, a Bachelors and a Juris Doctor Degree Cum Laude. That sumbichen phone is smarter than I am. I hate it already and want to track down Alexander Graham Bell's burial site so I can dig him up and choke him for inventing them in the first phone.
Dayum these things are a ROYAL PITA.
For the official transcript to be noted and entered into the record of time forever-- I HATE PHONES!

Good gravy - I ADORE my Samsung Note 3 Android. It has *everything* on it. Social media, calendar, Kindle, calculator, notepad, music, audio books, movies/tv, and on and on. I love it!

Yes gravy is good. Whats social media?
I do kindle on my laptop but will try it on that dayum phone. But I still hate phones in general. Lived the first good part of my life with a phone on the wall or countertop.
Official I still hate phones.

Technically, I believe a forum like UP still qualifies as social media, but I was referring to my Twitter, Instagram, etc. :D (@welliewitch on both). Haha. I am sure you'll like it once you get used to it.

I too hated my BlkBry smart phone at first. I would just look at it funny and it would do things. Heck it starts talking to me now for no reason. MrsMac thinks I am hearing voices.
In essence though, it is better than the standard cell phone we grew up with. One thing I hate about mine is I can't seem to pry it open to get the battery out. I will keep trying though.

Nemo I detested the thought of getting away from my flip phone. My wife detested the thought of having to get another phone after we both retired.
We had a legacy plan from Verizon from the late 80's I think. So much a month and 25 cents a minute. We went that way forever. Then one day wife wanted a new phone.
Bottom line was we got two phones and two tablets for cheaper then the flip phone was costing. To be fair my 94 year old Mother was having end of life issues, so there was a lot of calls to Sister in Indiana.
Nevertheless, with the new stuff wife and I are finding lots of benefits. Day Timer doesn't like the fact that I don't buy a paper calendar from them every year though.

Nemo you sound just like my wife. Our third flip phone gave up the ghost and our grandchildren said get an Android. We had the same type plan as Z. She screamed and howled about how she hated it. Easter Sunday at the family get together all the women, grandkids are all women now got together and taught her. Now she loves it.
I'm not allowed to touch it, go figure.

I will be honest and admit I have learned many things my phone can do and its great. But officially and for the record, I still hate phones and want to tie this one to the wall in the kitchen.
But I will confess that shortly starting this thread way back, I put a thumbtack in the wall with a 3 foot piece of string on it. The string was tied to the phone case and I hung my phone there. Wife did not find it humorous.

But I did.

Well now...
Please keep in mind to not leave your phone in your bedroom. It has the ability to be turned on by a remote user and listen to your conversations. In some cases watch too.
Not to get too biblical here but I often wonder if the 'Smartphone' is the beginning of the "mark/number of the devil". Revelation 13:15-18 KJV
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

With all deference and respect to Nemo, I use an app on my Android phone from FEMA through Google Play. Here it is on the computer to review.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.fema.mobile.android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.fema.mobile.android)
This allows you to choose 5 counties and receive alerts to emergency issues. FYI

I try to avoid my phone as much as possible. It's usually left in off mode, and if I'm feeling particularly paranoid, I remove the battery. That's the problem with Iphones and Ipads, you can't remove the battery, so you always have a potential surveillance device nearby. If you're concerned about surveillance, turn it off and place it inside a Mylar bag.

excellent point

Wait until you experience the joy of it changing what you type in its ever-helpful auto-correct mode...Hate that!
