Title: Basic Radio Operations and Opsec
Post by: Jackalope on March 17, 2019, 04:19:14 PM
Here's a good basic article regarding radios, and also about Opsec: https://thoughtsfromfrankandfern.blogspot.com/2019/03/opsec-communications.html  The authors Frank and Fern stopped blogging about three years ago, but they're back.  Frank does a good job explaining radio basics, if you follow his blog.  He and his wife were teachers, so they have the ability to easily impart concepts.  I'm glad to see that they're back.

I've got the Midland - GXT1000VP4 the ones he mentions in that article.  I've really liked them.  One of the benefits of them we got early on was when my wife was working at Wal-Mart they used those exact same radios in house so they would let her buy, at their cost, the radios & accessories for it since they bought so many.  We only got 4 and a few accessories before she left there (I did use my 10% discount on a good bit of ammo though!)  They are generally pretty sturdy, they take a lot of use & abuse at that store & still held up fairly well.  Also pretty good range, cause Wal-Mart is about 3-4 miles away & we can hear them quite clearly.  They've also got more channels than a lot of the FRS radios have, which I like cause then I can use those with less people likely to hear if I would prefer they don't.  FWIW, they have my stamp of approval!  :fuckYeah:
