Title: New Production Sturmgewehrs
Post by: Grudgie on May 15, 2016, 06:52:32 PM
Thought some fellow firearm enthusiasts might find this interesting, a company called Hill & Mac Gunworks is manufacturing semi-auto Sturmgewehr rifles.

Military Arms Channel has an update on the rifle if anyone is interested. To sum the video up in one incomplete sentence: still under development.

And while we are talking about awesome German weapons, here is a video of a Luger being thrown in the mud and fired. I think you'll like it.

Told one of my buddies about it.

I think the old factory in Suhl was also making new ones but of course were more expensive since Made in Germany

Just an update, the new rifles are in production and very close to shipping out. They will be available in 4 calibers with a simple barrel/bolt change and nothing else. .5.56, 7.62x39, .300 blk, and 8mm kurz.

Trade the 8mm for a basic 7.62 and they will sell much much more methinks.  8mm kurz is not that prevalent or used on this side of the pond.

Semi auto Stoner63 would probably sell well too. :gunner:

I'm actually liking the .300 blk option from what I see. The 5.56 and .300 blk magazines fit 50 rounds standard in these compared to 30 for the 7.62 and 8mm.

Semi auto Stoner63 would probably sell well too. :gunner:

Oh yeah, the lead engineer in an interview dropped hints he may look into bringing back other firearm designs next. ALOT of work went into designing this one. It's basically an improved version of the original German while keeping the external aesthetics of the original. But there are lots of great firearm options to improve and manufacture.

To name a few,
- Double stack p08 Luger in .45 acp
- Egyptian Hakim
- Dragunov
- Stoner 63
- M1 Garand

Anybody else got ideas?

What can be made better on an M-1 Garand?  Unless it takes a magazine.  But that would be an M-14 methinks.  The only possibility would be to make it a 7.62 caliber.

How about a double stack 45 cal P-38. Double action where the P-08 is single action.

The M1 Garand design only allows for a very narrow range of ammo to be shot without damaging the op rod. To little and it doesn't run reliably. Too much and the op rod gets bent. This could be remedied by beefing up the op rod or redesigning the gas system. Yes, there are after market gas plugs, but that's no fun. It could also be redesigned to require less grease.

Yeah, minor adjustments on an M-1 would be great.  But as Patton said (and I agree with him) the greatest battle implement ever designed by man.
