Actually, I don't find that statement all that ridiculous.  But then I think we should have a system like Israel's where everyone is required to serve in the military for a length of time.  That will never happen though.  In the eyes of the Obama administration turning out that many veterans would be like building a potential terrorist production mill.

I don't belivie in conscription at all. The volunteer military makes for a much more professional cadre. However my belief is no one should be comander and chief with the power to send troops in harms way unless they have served. They need to understand the gravity of there choices.

 NOLA I see your point and I'm all about freedom of choice.  Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, that's a lot of choice.  Along with freedom of choice, pursuit of happiness, and the rest comes the thing that holds them all together and ensures they will be passed down to the next generation, responsibility.  Our rights may be God given, but there is only one way in this world to ensure that we get to keep them.  You'll have to figure out what that is.  It seems every generation has to relearn it anew.
