A Survivalist Society

Before I start, I'll relate a story about the Chief of the Powhatan Indian tribe in Virginia. Chief Powhatan was having a meeting with leaders of Virginia settlers. He had 21 body guards standing behind him. While the chief was saying something, one of his body guards interrupted him to correct him. Chief Powhatan stood up, took his battle axe and smashed the body guards brains out and then sat back down and continued as if nothing had happened. The settlers were shocked to see that.

That story serves to make it clear that the American Indians were a survivalist society. In a survivalist society, where someone is totally in charge, they have absolute rule. That's because a screw up or failure to obey orders can cause the death of the entire group. Its also called a battlefield mentality.

With that said, I am the first person to tell you that I am a stickler for following the rules/and or laws. However, when we all have to go into a survivalist mode. I'm going to be the first to do whatever is necessary for me and mine to survive. I see a lot of post where people are tell other preppers that they can't do this or that because its against the rules or against the law. HEY! Stop doing that. When its save your butt time, you do what you have to. Don't worry about radio Licenses or Drivers licenses, or any other thing that would normally hinder you. As a matter of fact, when it all goes wrong, Ham operators will probably be the first ones told to cease radio operations. Well, if that happens, I'm going to do what I have to in order to communicate with my family and keep them safe. I have supplied every one of them with a radio and calling frequency. I have also told them to never, ever use them unless it is absolutely necessary. Until then, I'll plant my foot in their butts if they use them illegally.

I guess my issue with this is not that I disagree that you do what you have to in a survival situation. It's that 99.99999% of the time this kind of thinking is an excuse for sociopathic behavior. Humans are consensus builders. We depend on each other. Dictators like that tend to be overthrown frequently. Just look at African countries for multiple examples of tin pot dictators being churned through.

I agree leadership is important, and a willingness to break rules in certain situations. But you should do it knowingly and with a willingness to accept the consequences.

Also, most situations are likely to not be WROL or SHTF, but things like long-term depression, turning into climate refugees, etc. in my opinion. Learning to work within the system would be a much more useful skill, IMHO.

have you ever wondered why the genetic police have left that trait in humans?  Psycho & Socio paths do have survival advantages at times.

True, but in groups larger than that 100-140 number concensus isn't possible.  Heck consensus isn't possible amoung a group of 6 people when deciding on what to eat for dinner.

I'm just saying that there is a place and a time for different leadership types.
Military commanders and life boat captains do not often make the best or nicest civilian leaders.

Well there ya go PK.  You just turned us all into a radical, right wing, extremist group.  Now the feds are going to be watching us even more.  SPLC will have us on their list and try to infiltrate us.

The feds on my street will come to my side rather than across it.  They will be up the street watching through the windshield rather than down looking in mirrors.  Sheesh and Criminatley!

Just so you know, I live in Monacan territory.   Powhatan, Mataponi and Pamunky tribes got over here too.  Not their prime area but around here regularly.

Made sure I knew where they lived when I got back here.  How it was I learned way back.  Mostly I like to think anyway.

WOW! Some folks missed the point that I'm a stickler for obeying the rules. I don't expect things to get bad enough to modify my position, but if they do, I am flexible enough to do what I have to. Not to be argumentative, but sociopaths are born, not made. They have no fear and they have no conscience. When brought up in a loving home, they turn out to be our hero types because they learn compassion. When brought up in an abusive home, they become hitmen for the mob because they never learned compassion.
