Absolutely, thats why the shit never gets separated in my house (http://www.smileyvault.co
I figured out ( through wearing it a couple hours ) that my US Palm Attack Rack V2 is actually capable of carrying eight mags. So now. my only issue with the ARV2 is a non issue any more.
gotta wear your gear guys. you figure shit out by trial and error. better to have that error in a training setting than a real setting.

If getting laid in WROL was the goal I would think that plentiful food would be more important.
Frustrating!

Why do you ask?
That is a pretty good price on Pintos dude and that is exactly what prepping is about, buy it cheap and stack it deep.
Looking into how to get a greencard. You yanks may have some company sometime next year.

There is an Uber cheap ARCO station on Whitter Blvd. just before the IHOP where SEARS is. Its closer to La Habra then Whittier.

-Did an ammo inventory of all calibers in the safe and reorganized mags/ammo boxes for quicker access.

They dont know it, but every time I play "guns" with the kids "nerf guns" I'm instilling a lot of trigger dicipline. The oldest has taken to the iscosceles. and the 7 is a natural modified weaver. everytime I make sure they are pieing their corners. clearing rooms properly and COMMUNICATING! its so funny they've started saying hamburger for a threat, frenchfry for an unarmed or "good guy" and happy meal for clear.
I was just using it as an example the first time I told them about it but it stuck i guess what was wierd is they just started actually saying it recently right outta the blue. anyways with having as little money as I do it's hard to do something everyday that has something to do with prepping because most of the things I need to do is GET SHIT STOCKED! and its nearly impossible with all these hungry kids! lol.
Just gonna start telling them, "Dont worry about when dinner is! You starve now so you can eat later!"
In the last week or so i did the following:
-I setup my DVR to record "Doomsday Preppers" on NGC
-I modified my list of items to buy
-I started running (and i dont get shin splints anymore for some reason!!!)
- I practiced cooking and refrying raw pinto beans (if you have any good recipes im all ears)
-I put together my Blow out kit.
-I calculated how much water i have on hand and how long it will last a given number of people

Ken,
The wife just bought a brita water contaner at Walmart for 20 bux. I have filled 30 milk gallons off of that thing. It is the cleanest water I have ever had....water is a prep moat overlook due to the fact that they may have a well or something else.
It's always good to have water on hand just in case
Also, where did you pick up the 12 ga ammo and how much ?
how many fucking snow cones does you mom eat?
how much would your mom charge me if i ordered a ice cream cone from louisiana? :))

WW, $275-????It's practical. It's fun. I was thinking it'd be a real good starter for my kid. Plus I like a lot of the features on the gun and from what I've read it performs far better than the ATI HK .22 clones that sell for around $400. That and I'm selling my Savage 11/111fc and upgrading to a Savage Model 10 precision carbine. [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co I do look forward to cheap ammo prices in 22lr though.
I pay that for mine and I only pay that because mine are pretty complicated.
You were smart for walking away and doing your own.
OK, what .22LR is in your future? Don't forget you can buy a drop in conversion for your AR for about the same $$$ as a quality 22.
get the Henry broSame.
those 22lr mp5's are prone to jamming from what i've seen firsthand
yea the henry is a well built weapon, a guy at the range had one and it was a accurate rifle. if your gonna bug out heres a good choice.

mountain you have no idea how great browning weapons are, my grandpa growing up in the swamp always relied on his browning a-5, it always went bang everytime he pulled the trigger. there not only nice weapons but perform as good as they look, i dont know about you but if you want a gun that your grandkids can continue using that 22 is it.
After being a member of this forum for a little while, I have a renewed love and respect for the 22 cal. After realizing all of the purpose it would have in a prepping world, it's easy to see that it's not just your Grandfather's squirrel gun anymore.

Frig that! The frigging thing would beat me to death. If you ever visit Florida I'll let you borrow mine and see how many rounds of 00 you want to put through it. It's light so it will always be with me. But you really have to want to kill something to talk yourself into pulling the trigger the 2nd time. I'm big on shooting from the hip, close in with that thing. I've been thinking about changing it over to a pistol grip.

Hey WhiteWolf, I have heard that rabbits don't like the smell of marigolds. Might want to look into that.
The wife will love the flowers and you will love the lack or rabbits.Unless I want to eat them eventually :P
get a live trap and cut a hole in the fence, that way the only way they think they can get in they run right into your trap??? Then I just got to convince my wife it's chicken.....lol

was this at a garage sale or online? if online im curious of the price you paid.
@ WW- Oh nice thats a good deal for in store and the way to go for small amounts purchased for sure. the shipping kills the online deal unless you buy enough but heres where i buy mine. if i remember correctly for every 500 rounds its $12 shipping. and that means even one box will cost you $12 shipping but it saves you money when you buy in bulk.

Your fatherland ??? What language are trying to learn?
Well, my family is Primarily from Germany.
On my dads side they came over just before WWI and everyone that my family met came from Germany from that point on until me, the wife and I haven't traced her lineage yet.
My mom side is 100% German, my mom actually left German in 79 and came to the states marrying my dad.
Those of you that got me on FB look at my last name and wiki it.
I never learned when I was a kid. [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at Really regret it now, but I'm working on changing it.
Two more gallons of water BTW
Not to sound funny about it, but if it's in your blood it's not as hard to learn. I took it in high school and my teacher who was from Germany said I actually carried an accent similar to the region my family was from. Not sure how that happens, but it's not a hard language to learn. My family history on both sides come from Hesse Germany. Exiles from Scotland after that sob Robert the Bruce ousted us. If only I had a time machine and a few hundred AR's and a shit load of ammo. [img]http://www.smileydesign.n J/K (http://www.smileyvault.co

no shame in a folder bro. of course you sacrifice something for convenience, but folders have their place. and also, while i think the "toe shoes" are fucking ridiculous looking, hey man, if you like 'em then rock 'em. no shame. i can't speak from experience but i know they actually serve a legitimate purpose and are superior to normal shoes for certain applications. my little sister's boyfriend does that "freestyle running" or "flipping" stuff. where those crazy bastards jump from building to building and run and fly off of balconies and whatnot. he swears by those weird shoes.
one question though... does that mean you have to wear those cute little toe-socks?
Bought an AWD gas saver (cash). Rented a large home for my self, friends and family. Storing seeds and buying silver. Shit........ Im broke now.
What kinda commie BS is this? Street legal bicycles?
The People's Socialist Republic of Ohio. What kinda commie BS is this? Street legal bicycles?
seriously... lol
God help you brother, I pray for your soul.Hey, but at least we got concealed carry....along with a litany of conditions. Also, possession of a firearm with a magazine capacity above 30 rounds (except for .22lr) can get Ohioans a state "machine gun" conviction.
Decompressed on the lake, it was an out-fucking-standing day 8) Probably do the same tomorrow and Wednesday. Bought a sleeping bag, thank you redneck for the recommendation. And bought a beat to hell table saw for fifteen bucks.
Does your meter have an FCC number? It doesn't say "FCC" on it but could "G65N" be a FCC number?
What have I done to prep today?
Well, I survived getting electrocuted....while pressure washing! [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at
I still don't know exactly how it happened. No, I wasn't spraying the power meter, but I was standing near it. Either somehow water made it into the basement and dripped behind the fuse box OR it had something to do with the wire that goes to the water meter, which I was spraying near at the time.....Does anyone know if that wire carries significant voltage?
Luckily it popped me in mid-swing of the wand....A sudden bite followed by hair raising tingling as I swung away to open the circuit. It entered at my left middle finger (hurt like a m-f'er)and exited at my right foot (flip-flops in a puddle.)
So I guess I can say I survived to prep another day.
Yeah, I'm used to working with electronics (radio engineering, house wiring, etc.) I've been know to check a leg by brushing the back of my hand across it (learned from my dad,)....but I have to say this had a little more burn than the usual 110.....maybe because I was standing in water.....It could have been 220 if the circuit was closed by water dripping in to fuse box, 220 is present there.
LOL! bro don't touch live wires on purpose! i mean... ive done it before... but it's not good practice. that's how the old timers used to do it before volt meters were more common. It runs in the family. I knew a guy that would stick his tongue to 110 for $20, and then do it again for another $20......Some people are just built like that.
You probably got a taste of that 220v, I took some across the hand once and it was much more intense than 110v.
I could have also been that you were in a worse case scenario being wet and practically bearfooted.
Just dropped some Miracle grow on my banana trees/ elephant ears.
Planted a desert rose. ( Not really a prep but the yard looks nice ) ^-^
Planted two Aloe Vera Plants as well.
Roger Nola thanks.
You think I should separate the two. I put them within a few feet of each other. Am I going to come to regret that decision?
Wish I could get in to gardening, but there isn't much "prepping" to it for me. If it got to the point where I needed to have a garden I need to have my food stores paced and be gone.
This summer I intend to help with the gardening at my BO location, but I know next to nothing about it.
JM - I've got an old JD that's ready to give up the ghost and I see those 8Ns for sale all the time around here. I'm going to have to go and start looking at some of them.
Prepwise: Wrote another blog entry and reloaded 200 rounds of 5.56.
It's all about productivity amigo. See while you were typing that I got my PSA kit prepped to go see Mr. Norrell and get some OD flat Molycoat shot on it ;)
That ol' Hickory knive is FANTASTIC!!
If you want to mod it please give me a chance to buy it first.. please, all I need is that big old butcher knife any my set will be complete.
The silver is for paying off the balance of the mortgage when the monetary system blows up as I suspect it will exchange favorably for paper if things hold somewhat together. I trust it more than having a little cash on hand for emergencies.
We usually do all our canning up at my Mom's house but for some damned reason I bought a bushel box of peaches today and said "Fuck it, we'll do it live."
Turns out I don't own a pot big enough to cover the jars with water!
So today I bought two cheap Wal-Mart stock pots that are deep enough to fit 1qt. jars.
What have I done to prep lately? I bought a house. Small rural townof about 2000 people. Old victorian with a nice deep full basement. The old cistern wall was broke out into a crude doorway. Thick-ass stone foundation. Once we get it sorted from moving, will make a very nice shelter and storage. Also we have a old carriage house (small barn, really) that has alot of potential, but also won't be cheap, nor easy to make it into something usable. All of this on just under an acre of land. The neighbors all have huge gardens, and that will spur me into starting one also. Lots of work to do, but it's a labor of love really.

even if you lift with your legs if your back aint used to the work it will still get stressed and sore
that and chopping wood is just a bitch no matter how to do it >:(

gotta make sure i'm square before elections :))

Nice, I'm going to be starting paramedic class this fall. Focus on the practical skills, As long as you pay attention in class you can wing it on the written tests.
I just bought a dirt bike, Not too prepping related except for a last ditch scenario.
Ordered 100#'s of hard wheat seed!
This has been a two week project as I kept ending up at dead ends. The farmer across from the cabin and I have been wanting to try our hand at planting hard wheat seed to be mainly used for bread.
First off, finding a local place to buy wheat seed was tough as nobody carried it nor wanted to order any for us. Then I ran across a great guy via the internet who lived about 20 miles from the cabin that sold non GMO seed but didn't nor could he get hard wheat seed. He suggested that I contact someone in the Penn State Agriculture department.
Well that in it's self was tough as nobody would return my phone calls and one email I sent got a Professors feathers all ruffled because I addressed the email Mr. rather than Dr. Gee wiz! Well being persistent payed off (The squeaky wheel gets the grease) as I finally got to speak to a PROFESSOR who explained to me that good quality hard wheat was grown out west not in NE PA. I poked him a little by saying the colonists grew hard wheat and made bread with it so what's the problem. He told me he would get back to me.
Well he emailed me with a lead and suggested I try "Glenn Hard Red Spring Wheat". He also asked that I contact a local Organic Growers and Information Sharing co-op which I did to find who sells it and get pointers on growing and harvesting.
Well the President of the co-op got back to me and told me she was picking up 500#'s on Sunday and did I want any. I ordered the above mentioned amount. The price was $25- for 50# bag.
I will keep you periodically informed about our 1/2 acre planting experiment.
Now I have to research how to plant it before I talk wheat growing with Mrs President.
hj,
you could always send a sample to Penn State Ag. department to figure out what the variety is. I have sent them water to analyze as well as soil samples.
ROFL :Dhj,

So that's what you kids are calling it these days, ANALYZING ? Back in my day, we called it EXPERIMENTING.
The farmer across the way from the BOL showed me his new (to him) New Holland 95 HP tractor, 3 bottom plow, disck-er, hay rake and sickle bar.
May not mean much to the group however we are on our WAY!
solar ied???
Anyone figure out what I have been working on? Circuitry is a pretty fun hobby, so far.
WW, what beach? Lake or Ocean?
and that makes a +1 for Reaver.

Ken, nothing wrong or right just curious...Why did you change from 40 S&W to 9MM? Thanks
Thank you Ken for responding.
Personally I would take the 9MM over the 40 too. The 40 for me was tooooo SAPPY and I had a hard time coming back on target quickly - Most likely me. With that said, the .45ACP was easy to come back on target for me hence I am a 45 or 9MM guy.
Well my hard cider is working in the basement of the cabin. Below is a picture.Damn JM, your making my thirsty. Unchained Cinder sounds good to me.
'A' Carboy I used Chardonnay yeast
'B' Carboy I used English Cider yeast from England
'C' Carboy I used a lager yeast, and
'D' Carboy I used a lager yeast but the recipe is different from 'C'.
Once fermentation stops I will add raisins to Carboy 'B' & 'D'. About 2 weeks before I bottle carboy 'A' I will add french oak chips for flavor.
All told you are looking at 9 - 9 1/2 cases of 12 oz bottles of pure nectar next fall. ;D
You using the FBI hold there Ken?
JMac, whats the status of the Unchained Cider?
Yep, I am on the fence about it. I have seen your review thus far, and have been weighing it against the negative reports of jamming, etc. on the internet. Not discounting your opinion, and not trusting random people on the net. Just trying to make a good decision. What I really need to do is find a place that carries both the Millennium and the Shield, and get my wife to hold them and see what she thinks.
brat,
not criticizing just fishing for knowledge...
I tend to can in pint jars (16 oz) vs. qt (32 oz). The reason is 1 pint feeds both my wife and I with a tad left over. Why are you canning in 1 qt sizes.
Thanks
mrsninja and I have been on the same page since day one, as a matter of fact on our first date we walked past a camping shop having a sale and left with a few items for our BoBs.:'(

Program Extends Drug Shelf-Life
By Jim Garamone
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, March 29, 2000 – Military health officials have saved American taxpayers millions through a testing program that extends the shelf life of drugs.
All services participate in shelf life extension program, said DoD officials. The drugs are mostly those that are militarily significant items, said Army Maj. Marc Caouette, a pharmacy consultant assigned at the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Agency at Fort Detrick, Md.
Pentagon spokesman Ken Bacon said the testing applies only to stockpiles of drugs and not all of the $1.2 billion in prescription and over-the-counter drugs DoD buys each year. Bacon said March 28 that the war reserve stock of drugs encompasses about $87 million in drugs.
The program grew out of a 1985 Air Force initiative. The Air Force went to the Food and Drug Administration and asked if the FDA could check the expiration date of some of the drugs in the stockpile, Bacon said. The Air Force wanted “… to find out if the drugs were safe and potent beyond the expiration date set by the manufacturers.
“The FDA did this and found basically that the expiration dates tended to be very conservative, and as a result, many of these drugs could have a much longer shelf life than the manufacturers said.”
Caouette said an example of one of the drugs with an extended shelf life is ciprofloxacin. “It’s a broad spectrum antibiotic that’s used to treat many different bacterial infections, and also happens to be a medicine that can be used to combat biological warfare.”
The military has large quantities of this drug. So much so, in fact, that the manufacturer will not agree to take back the drug for credit when it expires, as they do for civilian users. “So rather than wasting it, we’ve put that product into our shelf-life extension program and have the FDA conduct the testing to see how long we can use that material past the labeled expiration date,” he said.
In the case of ciprofloxacin, the original expiration date was 1993. With the testing the shelf life has been extended to 2001 and further testing may extend it further.
Other drugs include the atropine automatic injectors DoD developed to combat chemical weapons pralidoxime chloride, diazepam (also called valium) to combat seizures brought on by nerve agents, and chloroquine anti-malaria tablets.
The products don’t get the full amount of shelf life following testing, Caouette said. The FDA measures the potency of the drugs and assigns another expiration date.
The FDA does all the testing. “They have all the laboratory facilities and they have all the product release specifications because they were the ones who approved the product in the first place,” Caouette said. “The drugs are tested to the same specifications as new medications just coming off the line.”
In fiscal 1997, DoD avoided spending $23 million to replace these drugs. “The testing cost $172,000,” Caouette said. “This means $135 saved for every dollar spent.”
In fiscal 1998, DoD saved $40 million with $260,000 spent on testing for a ratio of about 154 to 1. The fiscal 1999 figures to date indicate $33 million saved on $240,000 spent on testing. “Not all the tests are back from the fiscal 1999 tests, so we expect the 137 to 1 ratio to be even better,” Caouette said.
He stressed the military stores the drugs under optimal conditions. “Either a controlled room temperature warehouse where we monitor conditions. If the drugs have to be refrigerated we have purchased the appropriate refrigeration devices.”
Caouette said service members should not believe drugs in their medicine cabinets that are past expiration dates are safe and effective. “Probably the worst place in the world to store drugs is in your bathroom medicine cabinet,” Caouette said. “The worst possible place you can keep any medications is in a wet, hot environment. It’s the worst area to maintain stability. A cool, dry place is best to store drugs.”

in the middle of the winter when the snow is flying side wise.
Old Farmer's Almanac predicts freezing temperatures, more snow
Published August 16, 2015, Associated Press
CONCORD, N.H. – Just when you thought you had gotten over last winter, be warned: The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts it will be super cold with a slew of snow for much of the country, even in places that don't usually see too much of it, like the Pacific Northwest.
If you don't want to read about those four-letter words, there's plenty more to peruse in the folksy, annual book of household tips, trends, recipes and articles, such as animal jealousy, the history of shoes and anticipation for the biggest Supermoon in decades in November 2016.
Otherwise, look for above-normal snow and below-normal temperatures for much of New England; icy conditions in parts of the South; and frigid weather in the Midwest. The snowiest periods in the Pacific Northwest will be in mid-December, early to mid-January and mid- to late February, the almanac predicts.
"Just about everybody who gets snow will have a White Christmas in one capacity or another," editor Janice Stillman said from Dublin, New Hampshire, where the almanac is compiled. It's due out in the coming week.
The almanac says there will be above normal-rainfall in the first half of the winter in California, but then that will dry up and the drought is expected to continue. "We don't expect a whole lot of relief," Stillman said.
The weather predictions are based on a secret formula that founder Robert B. Thomas designed using solar cycles, climatology and meteorology. Forecasts emphasize how much temperature and precipitation will deviate from 30-year averages compiled by government agencies.
No one's perfect, and some meteorologists generally pooh-pooh the Almanac's forecasts as too unscientific to be worth much. The almanac, which defends its accuracy for its predictions overall, says its greatest errors were in underestimating how far above normal California temperatures and Boston-area snowfall would be, although it did predict both would be above normal.
The record-breaking winter in Boston dumped more than 110 inches of snow on the city. The almanac doesn't call for as much this year.
The 224-year-old almanac, believed to be the oldest continually published periodical in North America, is 26 years older than its closest competitor, "The Farmers' Almanac," published in Maine and due out later in August.
1) Saturday, bottled 2 carboys of hard cider - Two carboys yet to bottle.Gonna be picking blackberries again this year and making my trademark wine again. The last time I did that I made about 70 bottles of wine.
2) Started to harvest other veggies than lettuce, snap peas and radishes. Now harvesting spring rutabagas and summer squash. Lot of
green tomatoes. Corn didn't do well this year. Only about half of the corn I planted germinated.
3) Ordered a tri-axle of logs for the wood stove. Once cutup I should get between 7-8 cords. We only need 5 cords as I have 2 left over
from last year. I may sell the extra firewood to recoup some of my expenses.

Not sure this counts, but I traded my Sig SP2022 in towards a M&P9c with Trijicon HD night sights. Essentially, I switched a bulky full-size pistol, that was very difficult for me to conceal in warm conditions without looking conspicuous, for a small, compact pistol that can be easily concealed at the waist, or even on my ankle. Won't be sacrificing capacity, either. Standard mag is 12-rd, which is 3 rounds fewer than the Sig's 15 rd capacity, but the full size magazine (which also fits into the compact) holds 17 rds. So about even when carrying, and 2 extra rounds at home.
Next kicker will be to get enough range time to be comfortable with it. I've done enough dry firing to be pretty sure I'm getting an upgraded trigger/spring kit from ATEi.

Rah not sure what you are getting from ATEi. I have a number of M&Ps including full ATEi packages. For a trigger for that blaster go the Apex route. You will be super happy with the results.
Bummer JoJo. Hopefully your trailer was covered with insurance.
Rah, cooool!
RahThanks, I'll have to look into DLC.
Makes sense. I like ATEi's work. Also take a look at Wetwerks and Jaegerwerks, they both do nice work on M&Ps. If yo want a really durable finish also look at Black Nitride/ DLC coating. It holds up really well. I generally just stick with cerakote as I am tough on my guns and re-coating is easy enough. For general holster wear and EDC it holds up fine. For send, dirt, hard wear I like DLC.
. . . , yeah I'm scared.
I bought a blow up boat. The wife was griping until she saw that it could carry 400 lbs, had oars, a double action air pump, repair kit, and was almost 7 feet long. Then she said that I have to go back and buy a second one because she wants her own boat. I guess she has a point because if we both get in the same boat, then where are we going to put our BOB and other supplies? Its not a toy but its also not a bulletproof Kevlar boat either.
My wife is getting scared of all that's happening and asked to go to the gun club. So I took her and had her shoot my 10/22, she has natural trigger squeeze and a good eye. She wants to shoot pistol but must start at the bottom and work up to it.Great job!

Come on over out of the heat. Bring spare noogies. Whatever those things are, but you will freeze them off here. Its doing some serious cold getting.
Also, celestimine-- what does it do?
and prestik-- is that an anti-depressive medication or putty stickum compound?

Good to be back
Happy new year to all the preppers!
I did some small scale prepping, restocked my emergency (pocket size) sewing kit, and rearanged my new small waterproof carry on box(fits in my hand bag). I always carry these with me wherever i go.
I even managed to fit in a small mirror(lipstick box size mirror)-great for looking around corners without putting your head in danger. i fit quite a number of things into it.
*mirror
*floss (4m)
*earbuds (8)
*waterproof fire starter
*compass
*2 sewing needles
*celestimine tablets (4)
*material pencil (white)
*prestik (15grams)
*2 hairclips
*10ml vaseline
*tea tree oil (15ml)
*eno's sachets (2)

And tested out some of my new compact camping gear.
Found and tested a few recipes on an open fire.
All around not a bad way to enter a new year.
I hate christmas time of the year and must say, this was the most fun i have had in a long time over the holiday period.

I have a massive amount of kit here that I we have decided to move on after our inventory.
As JM has requested. We wish to provide those here with first dibs on the stuff.
Some of this is stuff you cannot get over there.
My problem is that I need to come up with an economical way to get it over to you all from the UK.
Looking for input and options.
Cheers all.

Got some training in this weekend. I went out to Utah for some fundamental defensive carbine work and to get some time in with the team I am going out with in a couple of weeks. Training was run by Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics. We are heading to the Capitol Reef area of Utah for some Recce/Patrol/Small Unit training with Buck Doyle of Follow Through Consulting.
It was a little bit of everything this weekend from nice low 60's on Friday to mid 20's and snow with big wind on Sunday. It made for some solid work. We only had 4 of our normal group of 6 that we will be going out with in a couple of weeks mixed in with a solid group of mostly LEO and a couple of other civilians. We were lucky enough to have a SOCOM in town at the same time so got in a nice 4 hr block of medical in that was not initial planned. He is a close friend and did this for our group, not the entire class.
I'll try to do a AAR of both this and the Recce class mid next month....once I get back and get caught up on the work front.

Kbop,
what are you being charged to have your sheep sheared? My neighbor charges...
> $65- just for the Shearer to show up and then,
> $15- per sheep.
I am glad to see that some folks are still buying ammo. Hopefully to replenish your cashes because you are practicing.
I also got some .50 BMG projectiles and some powder for reloading the big .50 BMG, while visiting a gun show.
Thx Kbop! Looks like my neighbor is paying a good rate.
I am so glad to see everybody still working on their 3 B's. ;)
PK what premium per ounce do they charge you and do you buy locally? When you say silver is it coins or bars?
I don't have any silver preferring other essentials first but might start to look at silver.

The 5.56 is in cardboard sleeves of 3 stripper clips of 10 rounds each. Easy to stuff a mag quick.

My wife sold her Mini CooperS last year as it wasn't a good car to have up here at the redoubt. This past fall she bought a used Subaru Forester which did a very good job this past winter up here.
I am not a big fan of long trips in it as it isn't as comfortable as our F150. With that written I have taken it down to my Mom's about 3-hours south when she needed to go to the doctor or what ever. It is a lot easier to get in and out of than the truck.
When using the Forester, I usually bring a 5 watt BaoFeng handheld along to stay connected with the local and repeaters along the route to Philly. Adequate yes, perfect no. So after much deliberation and procrastination, I installed a 65 watt VHF/UHF radio in the Subaru this week.
The radio was an old Icom 208H with a removable face plate. The actual radio body lives under the passenger seat and the remote head plate lives on the dash board. I did hook up a remote speaker too as the broadcast is rather muted being under the seat.
I mounted the antenna on the rear hatch after buying a Laser antenna mount. Also bought a Laser 5/8 wave antenna to top off the mount. After going to YouTube and searching for "Subaru panel removal" to find out how I could fish the coax I carefully removed the panels along the starboard side of the car and ran the wire to the passenger seat where the radio is. The coax is completely hidden and out of the way.
Last I did something I never do when setting up a radio in a vehicle. Right next to the passenger seat is an additional cigarette lighter port. Rather than running the power line through the fire wall to the battery I went to the lighter port. I read somewhere that there was no generator noise if you do this in a Subaru vs. some other car makers. So far signal reports have come back "full quiteing" so we will see what the future holds.
I am happy with the job and now just have to keep MrsMac from screwing with the face plate on the dash. ;)

Trying to save money but came across a deal I couldn't pass up.
Got a brand new North American Rescue WALK Kit. S&H pushed the price just over $200.
Plan to keep it in a vehicle when I go camping and will definitely be a much appreciated tool when I finally ditch the city to live in the country.

That is a steal! I’m insanely jealous. I have been wanting to add a walk kit to my stash for a while now. I need to go to Bragg and check out the surplus stores.
If you’re in NC check out Red Horse Surplus. I got a WALK with the litter for 55 bucks. I got a ACH with multicam cover and the new strap set up for 110. I’m going to stop by there again next month and look for anything else. I’m going to be picking things up for the TCCC class too. Haha. I do need some wet weather gear and they have a lot. Including the old school woodland stuff.
Almost half of coronavirus patients have digestive symptoms, study finds
By Robert Preidt
March 19, 2020 / 4:40 PM / HealthDay
Diarrhea and other digestive symptoms are the main complaint in nearly half of coronavirus patients, Chinese researchers report. Most patients with the coronavirus have respiratory symptoms, but these findings from the early stages of the outbreak show that digestive problems are prevalent in many patients with COVID-19.
"Clinicians must bear in mind that digestive symptoms, such as diarrhea, may be a presenting feature of COVID-19, and that the index of suspicion may need to be raised earlier in these cases rather than waiting for respiratory symptoms to emerge," wrote the investigators from the Wuhan Medical Treatment Expert Group for COVID-19.
The researchers analyzed data from 204 COVID-19 patients, average age nearly 55, who were admitted to three hospitals in the Hubei province between Jan. 18 and Feb. 28, 2020. The average time from symptom onset to hospital admission was 8.1 days.
. . .
Patients with digestive symptoms had a variety of problems, including loss of appetite (nearly 84%), diarrhea (29%), vomiting (0.8%) and abdominal pain (0.4%).

Smithfield Foods closes U.S. pork plant due to new coronavirus
Reuters
CHICAGO — Smithfield Foods Inc, the world’s biggest pork processor, said on Thursday it is temporarily closing a plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, because of the new coronavirus, the latest disruption to the U.S. food supply chain from the outbreak.
The company will suspend operations in a large section of the pork plant on April 11 and completely shutter it on April 12 and April 13, after employees tested positive for the virus, according to a statement.
The plant has a total of 3,700 workers, Smithfield said. It supplies nearly 130 million servings of food per week, or about 18 million servings per day, in the United States, according to the company, which is owned by China’s WH Group Ltd.
Tyson Foods Inc said on Monday it closed a pork plant in Columbus Junction, Iowa, after more than 24 cases of COVID-19 involving employees at the facility. U.S. beef plants run by JBS USA and National Beef Packing Company have also shut.

I went to the range for the first time in five months today. I went to the fifty yard range, even though my rifle is sighted in for one hundred yards to make sure it was on paper. 3/4 inch group 2 1/2 inches low. Then I went to the hundred yard range and was I surprised, 1 1/2 inch group left in the right side of the nine ring. Two clicks and X ring.
After that I went to the gun shop to replace what I used up. Here in Delaware you need an appointment to go to a gun store. I didn't have one but they let me buy ammo. Now the bad part. $12.00 a box of 20 for federal red box. I only had enough for money for five boxes. But I had a great time!
Installed the mobile radio into the family car today. Hits some local repeaters. I’m more than impressed with the comet antenna and antenna mount. The antenna it self is only 12 inches long (with a coil in the length to make sure it’s correct for the band). The longest part was routing the coax line. Right now I just have to cigarette plug it came with for power. But I’ll wire it in once I get a fuse jumper to make it clean.
I am likely also bringing back a bride.

Good for you. As far as the Communication skills go, the biggest problem I've run into is getting people to not be chatterboxes. They just don't seem to understand short messages that are on point are critical. I've heard really stupid stuff like,"I just passed the big tree and now I'm climbing over a big log." :chuky:Transmission brevity was actually part of the exercise. I emphasize thinking about what you're going to say, before transmitting. We also use multiple frequencies, i.e. a team tactical channel, and a command channel which is used to speak with the command center. That keeps idle chatter off of the command frequency.
Today, our mutual assistance group had a training exercise, which consisted of using map skills, hiking, and practicing communications skills. It was a beautiful day to be in the woods, and learning. Earlier this week we topped off our bulk supplies at some of our local Mennonite stores. At this point we're topping off anything that has rechargeable batteries, i.e., radios weapon lights, flashlights, etc. I don't foresee the immediate area becoming spicy; I'm basically preparing for events that are outside my AO, but could impact us, like extended power outages, lockdowns due to the Chinese virus, or supply interruptions. We're making sure we have an adequate supply of medications and livestock feed. Overall, we're in good shape, though Mr. Murphy may beg to differ.
Good luck Brother
Hmmm... Jackalope has considered something that I didn't. I will only Bug Out as a last resort but I've got a premarked map in my bug out backpack that shows about 5 ot 6 possible locations. The farthest one away is about 120 miles. I picked locations that were at least one mile away from the nearest house. Most of them are about 2 miles from the nearest house. I did that because I don't want anyone to hear me shooting at small game because they might come to see who is doing the shooting. All my BOL's are on Public land. Damn!!! Its hard as Hell to find a spot anywhere in Virginia that is at least a mile from somebody's house.
