In the last week or so i did the following:

-I setup my DVR to record "Doomsday Preppers" on NGC

-I modified my list of items to buy

-I started running (and i dont get shin splints anymore for some reason!!!)

- I practiced cooking and refrying raw pinto beans (if you have any good recipes im all ears)

-I put together my Blow out kit.

-I calculated how much water i have on hand and how long it will last a given number of people

Ken,

The wife just bought a brita water contaner at Walmart for 20 bux. I have filled 30 milk gallons off of that thing. It is the cleanest water I have ever had....water is a prep moat overlook due to the fact that they may have a well or something else.

It's always good to have water on hand just in case

Also, where did you pick up the 12 ga ammo and how much ?

yeah i stock a lot of bottled water because i dont have any water source near by that i can actually use on a daily basis from my home. i know where lots of different water sources are but they arent walking distance that you could reasonably do on a daily basis so i have enough water to ride out the initial storm until its safer to make long journeys or maybe even move camp all together. but i still do need water filters ill deffinatly check out the one you speak of.

i got that 00B ammo on Cheaperthandirt.com for like around .39 a round after you include shipping if i remember correctly. the slugs were a little over a dollar a piece i think. Rio is the brand and they actually are nearly 3'' shells. they have a clear plastic top because they arent crimped but are rolled ends.. very long brass base... ive yet to test the fuckers but as soon as i get a chance im going to do a review on both the 00B and the Slugs.

On the note of water storage. I've found (since having the 3 younglings) that the 1 gal. Hawaiian Punch bottles are awesome and perfect. They are squarish. and have a carrying handle for quick gathering. at the moment I've only got 5 stashed but as they get emptied I am rinsing and refilling. I also use 2 liter bottles but I normally use those for cooking and such when the water gets shut off (which happens about once a week where I live.) I may look into 5 gal (plastic) drums my mom gets snow cone flavoring in.

If only I could do the same with propane from my stove  ;D

lmao, I was actually waiting for that question to arise. She doesn't actually, she has a snowcone machine in her ice cream truck.

her and my step dad both have one. They have a chevy pickup with an ambulance inverter to do supply runs (for ice cream) I've actually been thinking about making their house a place to bug-in. Its perfect minus it's location.

To Reaver: I will give you some credit for some things but what else would I store it in?
actually I started that a long time ago due to the aforementioned water stoppages.

WW, $275-????
I pay that for mine and I only pay that because mine are pretty complicated.

You were smart for walking away and doing your own.

OK, what .22LR is in your future? Don't forget you can buy a drop in conversion for your AR for about the same $$$ as a quality 22.
It's practical. It's fun. And most importantly....she's perty. http://www.hyattgunstore.com/heckler-koch-mp5sd-22-22lr-carbine-10-round.html Well, either that, or a simple Henry lever action. I was thinking it'd be a real good starter for my kid. Plus I like a lot of the features on the gun and from what I've read it performs far better than the ATI HK .22 clones that sell for around $400. That and I'm selling my Savage 11/111fc and upgrading to a Savage Model 10 precision carbine.  [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co I do look forward to cheap ammo prices in 22lr though.
