Quick JohnyMac Update
« on: March 27, 2024, 12:13:56 PM »
Bottom-line first...March 2024 has not been good for me, specifically my health.

The month started out with red eye (Conjunctivitis) in both eyes. After a week of drops it went away and then came back for an encore showing.

Then my heart rate wouldn't come down from 141 beats per minute so I ended up in an ICU for two nights and three days two weekends ago. I would not recommend the local hospital resort & spa program. Home and stable with a bunch of new meds. Hopefully, we can eliminate the meds before the SHTF.

Then my blood sugar was hovering around 250 post leaving the resort & spa and hovered around 400 during my luxurious stay. Okay, got that under control now.

Well starting yesterday, an old illness returned...Gout.

Yes old Ben Franklin and I suffer from the disease of decadence. My downfall is asparagus this time of year because I like asparagus and it is cheap at $.99 a pound. Well apparently my asparagus consumption was just too much for my body to pass monosodium urate crystals. So they ended up in my right foot and ankle.

Consequently, it has been hit or miss me visiting UP of late.

Jackalope was aware of my ailments and has been keeping an eye on UP in my absence. Thank you Jackalope!

Our local MAG has been keeping an eye on MrsMac and I during the month of March during my troubles. It is good to have friends. "A sweet friendship refreshes the soul" Proverbs 27:9

This stretch of ill health, has really brought to the forefront of making sure there is several layers of backup for UP. It has also highlighted the importance of backup for the ERIN nets, both digital & phone. OBH does jump in when needed to do the digital ERIN net, however, I have no backup for him nor do I have anybody that can fill in for the phone net.

Next month (April) the phone net will be going back to 40meters so hopefully more people can participate and I can get/have a few folks who can fill in as NCS. Similarly, a ham or two that could take digital so it doesn't always fall into OBH's lap. If interested for either NCS role, just drop me a PM and we will go from there.

In closing, I just turned 69 and my health is quickly returning. Looking forward to being part of all your lives today and way into the future.

73 & God Bless
JohnyMac

FiL had gout.  Best cure for him (in his mind anyway)  was vinegar.  He did a couple tablespoons every morning of basic apple cider stuff and claimed it works.

Had some stomach issues but it was not related at all. By his beliefs.  But his gout was only a minor problem.

So, give that the credibility you deem proper.

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

God created Man, Col. Sam Colt made him equal, John Moses Browning turned equality to perfection, Gaston Glock turned perfection into plastic fantastic junk.

It's good to hear that you're on the mend, Johny!  Like most folks, I try to limit my visits to hospitals.  I've noticed I get very little rest in hospitals, which makes it more difficult to recuperate.

I offer my services as NCS, when the net is on 40 meters.  75 meters is hit or miss, and I'm way too south to be an effective NCS on 75 meters.  I'm looking forward to the seasonal transition to 40 meters.

Hey, Johny, did you turn 68 or 69?  I thought you are just a few months older than me. Happy belated birthday!

JMac, you are too young to be fooling round with this nonsense - I reckon that with focus and return to activity, you'll be right as rain in no time.
And many thanks for your good service here.
But.   Don't make me come over there to nurse you!
(one thing you _might_ try is intermittent fasting, with a healthy dram of moonshine midday.   No.   I'm not joking here.    Some of the "old ways" have been very mistakenly put aside in favor of "modern" poison)
