The rate (perhaps even acceleration) of magnetic declination change _might_ be a harbinger of pole reversal.    In geologic time, I think these swaps happen relatively quickly (and indeed we have evidence of multiple "swaps".)
But in human terms/time... this could develop into a real bugger.   Just great.... one more thing to worry about and lose sleep over....
