Title: That Happened to Me
Post by: Nemo on March 05, 2015, 11:37:06 PM
One of those "never figured it could happen to you" things.  Background--  March 2013 had heart attack a block from ER door and went into full arrest.  Got zapped back to NSR and got 2 stints put in through my wrist.

Anyway, had follow up appointment with cardic surgeon who did that.  FACC cert and all that stuff but looks about 12 or so.   I was wearing a home made paracord bracelet.  One of those that can be untwisted in about 4 seconds to give you 8 or so feet of cord.  Doc saw it and asked-- what is that, one of those magnetic bracelets?  Replied, no, its paracord and you can unweave it in a few seconds.

He was interested as can be-- whats paracord?  Explained and took bracelet off and gave it a pull and had the line.

He was enthralled and wondered what it was for.  Basic explanation.  He wondered why and I told him I am one of those people who think its always a good idea to have an extra bit of supplies in the kitchen cabinet and box of ammo in the gun cabinet.  Told him if ever SHTF in this country he should bring wife, kids, dog, cat and every bandage and script he had in the office and head to my place.

He said no problem he has all the script sheets we could ever need.  Told him that I was talking about a situation where all the drug stores would be closed and looted a day or so past.  He said ah, yeah, I been reading and wondering about that and we should have lunch sometime.

I said that would be an excellent idea.

Imagine getting a FACC certed cardiac surgeon in your group.  Methinks that would be a good idea.

A higher power/guardian angel is keeping an eye on you. Take its advice and:

> Take care of yourself & your family, and
> Reach out to this Doc so you can help each other.

Yeah, recently started high BP meds from GP.  Consult with Cardio.  He upped it.  Go back for re-evaluation in a month.  Worst thing is I go do 18 holes with him on local high dollar member/guest only club.

As sole practitioner he might realize he should up his office stock on med, kits, tools and such things.

I was just thinking (Scary)...If the drug str is closed or looted; head on over to your GP's business. Most GP's have a closet full of samples  ;)

A farm equipment/usage store.  The one here in town is "Tractor Supply".  Routinely stock antibiotics and those kinds of things for horses and cows.  Often injectables but occasionally horse pills.  We have occasionally needed them with the 3 oops, 2 steers and 2 horses we have.

Also have spring chicks in the store if you want to start a chicken flock.  Some areas up north have a "Southern States" Co-op store.  They frequently have similar stuff.

I have already had a conversation with him along those lines.

Hit the pet store for fish antibiotics and other stuff. Guinnie pigs can be bred for meat and there is a load of other animal  food.

40 years ago I used to eat the kibbles I fed my hounddog.  She loved is and I thought it was pretty good too.  A tough crackery/nutty flavor.  I am game for it right now if thats all thats left in the cabinet.  Warm milk and a little brown sugar makes it excellent.  If none of that, better than not eating.
