Staying Alert with AI
« on: May 31, 2025, 06:47:44 AM »
As AI heads in the direction of becoming ubiquitous, some people are embracing it while others are resisting it. Wherever you are on the spectrum, let?s stay alert to possible dangers. I believe this article has merit and wanted to share - https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/john_whiteheads_commentary/the_algocracy_agenda_how_ai_and_the_deep_state_are_digitizing_tyranny

Bottom line: AI is inevitable. It's as inevitable as the shift from the agricultural revolution to the industrial revolution to the information revolution we're experiencing now. Good or bad, we're evolving as a human race.

I share concerns about AI expressed by John Whitehead, Glenn Beck, and others. Everything humankind invents is a double-edged sword; some use it for good, others for evil. The question is, can we trust humans to regulate AI? And who decides which regulations are good or bad? We see this today in the ebb and flow of regulations, both domestically and globally.

Like the space race, we have three distinct societies with different ways of thinking - China, Europe, and the United States - competing to build the most sophisticated AI.

This is a great discussion, and I'm glad Hope is bringing it up.

I'm experimenting with AI in its current form, mostly asking it questions I'd typically pose to a search engine. On the other hand, MrsMac is terrified of it. She believes she'll be long gone before AI moves from its infancy to adolescence, teenage years, and full-fledged adulthood. I don't think it'll take that long - maybe by the early 2030s.

The more we interact with AI, the more we feed it, like adding flour and water to a sourdough starter. It grows with every question and input.

I'd love to hear others? thoughts!

Its a computer which means the info coming out is only as good as the info going in

- Who is putting the info in???
- Who is checking the info is accurate?
- Last night on Gutfield they talked about AI creating pictures of people in certain situations AND mimicking the voices of people to use as scams. For instance - a parent gets a call from their adult child asking for financial assistance and carrying on a conversation to get the money.

I left websites because they state something along the lines of it being controlled by AI. Does that mean the computer decides what I see or who can see what I post??

I know enough about it, which is very little, to know that it will NOT be a part of my life as long as I have control of my life

At some point there will be no way to avoid it. Minimize its influence on your life yes, but not avoid it.

In my opinion, the more you rely on yourself e.g. grow your food, provide medical services, use uncomputerized vehicles, use less plastic money, etc. you can avoid most of its tentacles, however, you can not eliminate it entirely.

Quick personal story.
The healthcare system (hospital, doctors, etc.) we use was bought out by a big mega hospital system. The mega system wants to deal with MrsMac and I via texts and emails not 1:1. I received a phone call yesterday from the mega system letting me know that I was $XXX.00 in arrears with medical bills. I informed the nice lady that I never received a bill in the mail. If the mega system would mail me a bill I would pay in full.

She explained to me that they had sent us texts and several emails. I explained to this nice lay that MrsMac does not have a cell phone nor play on the computer and I do not pay bill's coming in on texts and emails due to phishing issues. I actually block both soon as I receive one. This nice ladies demeanor changed from smiley to on the verge of hostile. She told me that is how the new mega system did business. Blah, blah, blah.

I nicely told her, that if the mega system wanted to be paid, they will have to send me a bill ala the USPS. I also told her, that the mega system needed to loose my cell phone number and only contact me via the land line.

She curtly said, "good by" and hung up.

This little story is presented to UP subscribers for two reasons,

1) This is just the beginning of AI and it will become worse.
2) Stand up for yourself (s). Say no when appropriate but be nice saying "no". The person on the other end is just
doing what their bosses are telling them to do.

Last, and it has nothing to do with this thread; I can't wait for my doctor to tell me I need a vaccine for X ailment. At which time I will point out to him that he pushed me to the point of threatening me to take the Covid jab, which I never did. I said, "no" but with a smile.   ;) With all the new information that is coming out about the jab Doctor, it's a good thing you never followedd through with your threats.  ;D

I am also interested in this and have no clue about it.  Just the last few days I have seen videos that are suppose to be AI generated and look, to my eyes, real.  I can remember a decade or two ago hearing that videos and pictures can be made to show anyone doing anything.  At the beginning of digital photography and the change from "film", there was a big issue on evidentiary photography and how to insure evidence photos were not digitally manipulated.

Apparently we are there now.

I think I have a pretty good handle on spam email and phone calls ultimately wanting money, medicare numbers, banking info, etc.  My main defense for these is: don't answer the email and don't answer the phone.

But sometimes you have to answer.  And that is why we need to understand what we are up against.

Unfortunately I don't understand and really don't know where to start.
