Odd Story
« on: September 14, 2017, 09:12:41 PM »
About two months ago a ham friend approached me asking me to buy two $10- chances to win a Glock 27 in 40 S&W. It was to raise money for the Broome County, New York Sheriffs department. They were trying to raise money for old deputy sheriffs, or for old ladies that wear the NY state flag undies, or what ever. I did it because he was a friend and I NEVER thought I would win the handgun.

Last Thursday MrsMac and I were hanging a mirror in our new head (Bathroom for you Hillary supporters) and in mid hold my wife ran off to answer the phone but before she got there the answering machine had clicked on. Rather than upset that function she came back and said, "I think it was a guy called Sheriff Harder from Broome County. What have you done now?" I told her I haven't the foggiest and to mark the damn wall where she wanted the mirror hung as my arms were getting tired.

Anyway, later that night I was sitting in my recliner sipping a nice chardonnay when I noticed the answering machine light blinking. I asked Iain one of our cats to push the answering machine button but as usual he just ignored me. Got up and pressed the play button and there was two messages.

1) Yup a call from a Sheriff David Harder from Broome County wanting me to call him. No reason, just call him.

the second was,

2) The message was from the guy I had bought the ticket for the Glock 27 raffle from. He was as excited as a kid on Christmas morning opening packages. He told me in an excited voice to call the Sheriff as I had won the aforementioned Glock.

I did called him and Sheriff Harder told me that I had won and it was up to me to figure out how it gets transferred from his office in NY to PA. Nice conversation all in all.

Well my friend who sold me the raffle ticket has a FFL so once I contacted him he picked it up from the Sheriff and took it to a FFL in PA. $35- later I am now the owner of a Glock 27, in 40 S&W.

Now what the hell am I going to do with a handgun the size of a pack of cigarettes in a rather aggressive caliber???? It is cute though.  :sarcasm:

Johny

What a great story.   Get a drop in 9mm barrel and some 9mm mags and you and Mrs Mac will enjoy that gun much more.

Congratulations!

That's pretty cool Johny!  Well, you could trade it in for another firearm that's more to your liking.  My official policy is that you can never have too many firearms.   I've tried to consolidate my firearms so that they are chambered for common calibers, though I guess the .40 is common these days.  I've always thought the .40 was similar to 10mm in performance.  Anyways, handgun wise I stick to .22, 9mm, and .45.

   In any case, congratulations!

Sell it and get a 1911.  In 45acp.  Made of metal.  Not plastic.

I also agree that one cannot have too many guns, but I also am doing a bit of trading to consolidate calibers.

If you need a second magazine, its time to call in air support.

Thx guys (What happened to our lady preppers).

Mmmm, I like that idea CJS of dropping in a 9mm barrel. Will everything else work on the gun then?

I will shoot it this weekend and let the group know how bad the recoil is/was.

The guy I bought the raffle tickets from and me had breakfast yesterday. He told me that I will be pleasantly surprised when I shoot the handgun.

Add a grats to note above.

Keep in mind that because you won it, its not really yours until you shoot it some.  I cannot get my mind to understand or comprehend the idea of purchasing a firearm and oooohh-ing and aaahh-ing over it for year on the time or 2 a year it gets out of the safe and silk lined sleeve.

It ain't a gun and you cannot be sure it works until you put lead out the muzzle.

Choot IT!!

Shot the beast today. Although the follow-up rounds were slower than what i am normal too, it was A-OK to shoot.

On my 1911, or M&P I can pull the trigger as fast as I can and get a nice "L" at 20 feet. With the Glock 27 it takes a bit of time to resight in to center of mass - Maybe as much as double what it takes to get back on target with the aforementioned handguns. I am sure that I can improve that with practice.

Now on another note: I have a new love and that is my S&W M&P. I have shot my M&P of course but today I put over 200 rounds through it. It points just like my 1911 and I consistently puts a whole mag into the size of a "CLAY PIGEON" without even trying at pretty much any distance under 50 feet. 25 - 30 yards the spread opens up a bit however I am still center mass no matter how fast I squeeze that trigger.

Congrats!

My suggestion would be to make this a back up handgun.
Or change barrel to 9mm (if that is sufficient am not a glock guy)

I also own 2 M&P 9s though...

The gen1 s(which are fine IMO) are can be had for very competitive prices.

OK you have fired it.  It didn't work as well as other you are used to.  That means sell in and buy a real gun made of metal.

The guy I bought the raffle tickets from and me had breakfast yesterday. He told me that I will be pleasantly surprised when I shoot the handgun.

There are a couple of companies that make good conversion barrels.  Lone Wolf, Storm Lake and I believe KKM all make them and are straight drop in.  After that you just need 9mm Mags for a G26.  Also G19 and 17 mags will run in it just fine for more capacity as spare mags.

Good to hear you enjoyed shooting it.  You found the main reason I dont like shooting the .40. Slower follow up shots than with either 9mm or .45 ACP.
