Post by: JoJo on May 14, 2019, 10:20:12 AM
Geomagnetic storm of Kp7 strength to be here by mid to end of week. More CME's coming.

Kbop, what are your thoughts on this?

From the reports that I've read, it's medium size storm.  We've seen worse, even during the past solar cycle.  I still keep some stuff in Faraday boxes, but I'm not overly concerned.  The recent solar activity will effect propagation, other than that, not much to worry about.

its a bit unusual - this many and aimed at the earth. i think we have been hit by two and two more are on the way - let me look.
like Jackalope said, its most likely just going to piss off satellite operators.
if you are worried, might not be a bad idea in this one to disconnect long wire antennas.
it has reached KP7 like JoJo said - we currently have a G3 storm going on.
NOAA says the biggest problem will be a geomagnetic storm.
for comparison the one that missed the Earth in 2003 was in the X28+ category - that would have me needing clean undies - this one is several thousand times smaller and weaker.
The classes go A, B, C, M and X.  this one is a largish A class.  the scale is logarithmic.  A 'C' would make me get some fuel for my generator and an X would have me  :hiding:
if we avoid sympathetic resonance issues we shouldn't have any power problems.
