I went to the local Dollar General Store today and bought a 5 pack of BIC lighters. The cashier said that I had to show her my drivers license. I asked her if she had lost her mind, so she rotated her checkout screen around and it showed that a drivers license was needed. Well, I begrudgingly showed her my Drivers License. As soon as I got home I was fuming and called the Corporate office to complain. Keep in mind that BIC LIGHTERS are just that. They are not CIGARETTE LIGHTERS. When I got someone on the line, I gave them the store # and store address and told them that I was very angry about having to show my Drivers License just to buy a 5 pack of BIC LIGHTERS. She had no idea that Dollar General had that requirement and said she would report it to the District Manager. Hmmmmm.... I'm 78 years old and some of us at that age have stopped driving. What if I didn't have a driver's license? Would she have refused to sell me the lighters? Anyway she said that someone would be calling me back or at least sending me an Email message concerning the issue. I'll let y'all know how this BS turns out. :chuky:

Kroger has the same policy
Kroger usually has a good price on Yuengling. The self check out requires an employee to enter a DOB. The kids assisting here just look at me and punch in 01/01/2001 for me.
Guess I must look old.

Some how, Bic lighters have become the bumpstocks of fire starters.

That is interesting. Did she enter any information? DOB or license number?

Please let us know if this is a STORE policy or if it's a county or State regulation?
'Hop on your left foot before I grant you this lighter, to save the children, naturally. You DO want to save the children, riiight?'
