Well now, it looks like Hurricane Irma is coming to someplace on the east coast of the USofA. My guess today is somewhere between Brunswick, GA. and Wilmington, NC. Of course it all depends on the high above her path.
With Hurricane Harvey now a nasty memory and Irma storming into port, I suggest it might be a good time to....
> Keep your vehicles full,
> Top off your fuel containers, and
> Order fuel oil if you have a oil burning furnace.
We ordered diesel eight days ago at $2.09 a gallon. Yesterday it was $2.49 a gallon.
So what is your best guess of Irma's landfall?
-
Now reporting a category 5. One hundred ans seventy five MPH winds. :faint:
-
This would be a great oppurtunity for NK to launch a Submarine to land attack.
-
My sister and hubby run a campground in S. Ga. They are packed full, with tents overflowing and the large back field near full of people dry camping.
Lots of ppl in FL know when to GOOD.

Looking at the latest Hurricane Center report, it's looking like south Florida. If I lived in Florida, I'd be rolling north right about now. Hopefully there won't be any fuel shortages.
-
Out of the five most recent models, one is crossing the Key's and moving up the west coast of Florida, one is a direct it to Miami and 3 have the storm going up the east coast of Florida making landfall around GA. FL. border.
Regardless, where it hits landfall it will be a Cat 3 or 4 at this point in time. If it does go up the west coast of FL. it will be a cat. 3 reduced due to going over Cuba. Cat 4 for the other east coast possibility.

There is a Meteorologist that has a 90% accuracy prediction for hurricanes that always appears on Sean Hannity radio program. His prediction is nastiness ALA Cat. 4/5 for Puerto Rico and then a direct hit to Miami.
We will see.....
Predictions folks?
-
wow, already C5 this one is going to be a doozy in Cuba and PR. I'm topping off to.
-
I predict I will be very happy I am not 30 miles N of Tampa anymore, and just happy I am not at mile mark 60 on I 75 in S. Ga.

0929, 6 Sept 17 has the cone of uncertainty showing a hard right turn and the centerline of the cone headed straight up the middle of FL. It is projected to make landfall at a high Cat 3 to low Cat 4 storm.
Florida has become Dodge. If you are there, GOOD!

I understand there are already gas shortages in southern Florida. It looks like it may be already too late to evacuate for some folks.
-
James Yeager former navyseal/Blackwater friend Ben "mookie" posted on his Instagram that he couldnt find water anywhere. He lucked out that his old buddy from the Seal teams gave 5gallons outta his own preps. I was under the impression he already had SOME preps. Guess not.
Biblesandbarbells on youtube looks like he has his shit together to ride out a Hurricane Katrina event but anything long term, as in grid down wrol, has me doubtful.
-
Not too worried up here in North Georgia. Whatever we get will be leftovers. I'm primarily just concerned with how the Floridians are going to be affected by it all. The nation's resources are already spread out helping Texas from Harvey, and with wildfires out west.

Has Mr. Yeager ever thought of turning on his faucet at home???? If he doesn't have containers then go to Home Depot and buy a few 30 gallon trash cans. Gee wiz.
My prediction still is still the FLA. GA. SC. state boarder (s).

JM; common sense is an uncommon virtue.

It's looking like southeast Florida is going to get whacked. I hope that most folks are sensible enough to evacuate to higher ground. I never understood why folks would live 10-50 feet above sea level, to me it's like asking for trouble. My wife's uncle died in the 2004 Sri Lankan tsunami, along with 30,000 other folks. Just driving through that area gives me the willies, and as you may surmise I'm not a big fan of beaches. I just hope there isn't a big loss of life, infrastructure can be replaced, lives are irreplaceable.
-
I heard a report on radio news today. Key West has its highest point 18 feet about sea level. So a 19 foot wave would cover the entire island. All at once!
Just got back from Emerald Isle NC after a week there about 1500 today. Folks with me wern't paying much attention until 2 days ago when I told them if we were just getting there for a week, it would be a quick turn around. I hope the idea kinda sticks some.

Two hurricanes hitting within a month - gonna be a banner year for the Gulf.
I hope everyone gets out of the way!
and there is another one developing right behind Irma.

the drought in South Africa is getting worse.
the weather this year certainly has been interesting.

Yeah Kbop but Hurricane Jose looks like it has made its northern turn. That line of high pressure must have moved east and north other wise Jose would have probably it the USA too.
Gas has gone from $2.49 a gal here the day before Hurricane Harvey to yesterday it is at $2.85 a gallon. I suspect it will go north of $3.00 when this is all over.
I have lived through two hurricanes while living in RI. Neither one did we evacuate. We lived in Fort Pierce, FL. for a year on our sail boat. If I was living their now I would evacuate in a NY minute. I would try to rent a RV and drive up towards Pensacola, FL. and camp out till this drama passes.
Each time I look at the Irma map I keep thinking about Hurricane Andrew and the devastation that storm did to SE Florida. It was about the same time of the influx of people coming illegally from some Caribbean country..
About a month after Andrew we flew down to Miami. I had a job interview and MrsMac came with me. There were thousands of people living under the I-95 over passes from Miami to north of Palm Beach. You would slow down to turn onto the on-ramp to I-95 and be inundated by folks wanting a hand-out - It was ugly.. It go to the point I would not slow down but accelerate and blast the horn of our rental.
Once Irma passes I fear the same evil will settle over SE Florida.
God Bless.

Here we are at 1100 hrs Eastern 9/8/2017.
(https://icons.wunderground.com/data/images/at201711_5day.gif) Looks like Irma has gone a bit west.
-
These two storms hitting back to back could change the way Fl looks on the map

I-4 becomes a 50 yard wide channel 15 feet deep between Florida and S. Florida Island. Or N. Cuba?
