Title: Good Training = These Storms 09JAN24
Post by: Sir John Honeybucket on January 09, 2024, 08:36:29 PM
Today's storms have knocked out power across much of the eastern third of the nation. Mine is intermittent and etc.  So, did you use your back-up power ? How did it go?  These are the times when we have opportunity to use our minor preps and to EVALUATE THEM. This being the night for the ERIN HF radio net, some of us had to use back-up power at least once today and JohnyMac as NCS was able to keep in contact because of his large, home back-up power system.

Make improvements now, while it is not critical and materials are readily available.

If you're going to fight in the rain, train in the storm.

I have had not so much as a short flicker in power.  All is good.  The storm stayed more south and east than originally planned.  There has been some outages in the area due to the wind.

We got a good rain but not the predicted all day long heavy rain.  I suspect you and pkv near washed down the creek.

No power issues here. 11.2 inches of wet heavy snow. Cold arrives tomorrow. Will head your way.

No power issues here in middle TN.  Looks like we're going to get some single digit temperatures next week.  I picked the last of our tomatoes in the greenhouse on Monday.

Wise advice Sir John! Here in Central Georgia we got over 3 inches of rain in one day and had winds of 28 mph with higher gusts most of the day. We did not have any power failures, but the lights did flicker for about a minute. My battery backups alarmed when that happened, but nothing disconnected or failed. While I do have generators to back up a power outage, I believe I am going to look into a more permanent setup. Now is the time to prepare.

Years ago I lived through a week-long power outage due to the passage of hurricane-force winds. In August. Temps were in the mid to high 90's and the humidity was nearly as high. That was truly miserable, but freezing temperatures can be deadly.
