Fixing a car that ain't broke.

I've got a 2012 Acura TL that I bought about 2 years ago. I've kept it well maintained and it runs perfect and gets really good Gas mileage. Hmmmm..... That thing has a timing belt and I don't know if it has ever been replaced. Well, that wouldn't be a problem except the engine is what is called an INTERFEREANCE ENGINE. That means that if the timing belt breaks, the valves will hit the pistons and then the engine will be ruined. Today, I stopped by my mechanics shop and told him that I probably should replace the timing belt because the car has 160 K miles on it. He told me that it would be a smart move because those belts should be replaced every 70 K miles. Then he said that he has to remove the water pump in order to access the timing belt and installing a new water pump would not add much labor time to the job so I would basically be paying for the price of a water pump while he does the other work. Replacing the Timing Belt ain't cheap, but I often give him some money up front to cover future repairs so I will only need to give him a bit more money when he finishes the job. This super inflation that we're stuck in is awful and I'm trying to avoid paying double or triple later on. OK, I'm also trying to avoid ruining my engine.
