It's too hot.

Who do I have to see about this 102 degree day that we had today? Thank goodness, the sun is going down and it's only 92 degrees right now. I'm a 90 degree person. Anything below 90 and I can stand it but anything above 90 means that I'm going to be either sitting in my house or riding in my car. A lot of people like the Summer weather but I grew up on a farm and I've had all the hot that I ever want.  :faint:

Give me hot weather.  I can strip down to a loincloth and pair of flip flops if needed.  But I cannot get on enough wool, feathers, and nylon when it gets cold.

It hasn?t been too bad here on the Cumberland Plateau, it got up to 92 today, which is the warmest I?ve seen this year. It?s supposed to be in the 80?s on Thursday.  It?s been dry, but we had a bit of rain this evening, the first in a couple of weeks.  I?m not complaining about the heat, we just get up earlier and get our outside chores done as early as possible.  The dogs have learned to appreciate air conditioning!

I follow Jay & Jen on YT. Sometimes they do things that make no sense at all while other times they do worthwhile projects. Here is a clip on a DIY air-conditioner/heater they put in,

Keep in mind, they are 100% off grid and only using a 24 volt system. I am thinking of buying one of these. Close all the rooms and only use in the family room/kitchen. We have an open concept gathering area.

I reached out to Jay about his power consumption and he responded that they only use it during the day when the solar array is functioning 100%. As the wattage drops in the early evening, they turn the unit off.

     I?ve been considering a mini-split for a cabin on our new property.  The price wasn?t bad. I saw it on www.practicalpreppers.com  There?s lots of interesting things for sale on that website.

I much prefer cold weather, high altitude, mountains and conifers.  OTOH, we live in The South on the Chesapeake Bay, so that's pretty good.

Advantages of places that have REAL WINTERS is few insects, mold problems generally do not exist, human parasites don't like it either.  I find more human parasites in warm/wet climates.  Washington DC is usually warm/wet...

Wow, that was a good video. I do not need a mini-split at this time, but it looks like a very good investment in the application described. I have often wondered if it would be useable on an off-grid solar electric system. I always enjoy DIY videos and learn from other people's experiences and mistakes. I don't have the time or money to make them all myself.  :suicide:

Here in middle Georgia it gets HOT early and stays that way for about 6 months every year. We run our A/C unit most of the year, even on hot days during the winter. There is only about a six-week period in Feb. - Mar. where we may not need to use the A/C. During the summer the outside temps are frequently over 100 during the day and near 80 at night. We gave up on the idea of opening the windows in the evening years ago. There is no cool breeze in the evening here. It says hot all night long. Let's not discuss the summer insect swarms. They are relentless. The mosquito should be the state bird.

Searchboss: I've been to HOTLANTA, and I don't want to go back. That place is miserable in July, and I think the locals have to get their Drivers Licenses from New Jersey were they just drive however they want, and speed limits are optional.

I lived in Tifton GA for about 5 years.  Short pants and ankle socks were standard attire from about March 15 to Nov 15.  Not infrequently after that.

Similar to the 6 years prior about a half hour north of Tampa, FL.  But the good thing about GA was most hot days were low 70s at night.

Hot days in FL were frequently mid-80s at night.

Still, give me a loincloth and I am happy.

My bar is 65 degrees, above that and I'm toast, below and I'm a happy camper
