Title: Cabela's in the Christiana Mall
Post by: JoJo on February 19, 2015, 06:26:35 PM
It's a new store and I was up that way today. It's also the first time I was in a Cabela's and I was impressed. They must have had 500 guns and more ammo than I've seen since I was in the service. The fishing department was also impressive, I'm a fresh water fisherman in a salt water fishing area. Bought a few lures that I couldn't get locally. Hundred and forty mile round trip so I won't be going often.

This is from an old retailer...

I like Cabela's more than Bass Pro for a multitude of reasons I will not go into now.

Looking at Cabela stores the positives are:
+ Good inventory breath
+ Good shopping experience (Ambiance)
+ Good prices
+ Quality House Brands

Negatives:
- Not very knowledgeable sales folks
- Breath good but depth is poor especially in footwear but in other departments too
- Register system (POS) cumbersome
- Lack of sales folks

Now lets look at Bass Pro...
Positives:
+ There are a few more brick & mortar locations than competitors
+ They have a larger selection of fishing accessories and boats
+ They actually have a boating section
+ Prices are in-line with similar retailers

Negatives:
- There focus is on fishing and soft-goods (Clothing) not hunting/shooting products
- There inventory replenishment is poor. It's more usual to see empty shelves or pegs than other retailers
- Sales folks seem to have NO product knowledge...Scary
- There house brands are low quality

Wrong, right or indifferent...

Softgoods I will buy from Cabela's. Hard goods I tend to buy locally. Advise, I will gather myself rather than rely on either companies.
