Sun Oven???

kindredspirit:
I keep seeing sun ovens on Prep Lists and Prepper Blogs..... have any of you ever used one - seen one- heard of one?  Do you think it would be a good investment?  They run about $239.  I have found some plans for DIY solar ovens... anyone ever make one?

I'm on it... will be posting a thread.

I love the idea because it keeps us from having to scrounge or burn stored fuel, which keeps us from having to needlessly expose ourselves.

Solar ovens are awesome!  You can make them from something so simple as a hole dug in the ground, place a receptical in the bottom of the hole, then place a mylar survival blanket over the hole with a small rock on top to create a cone leading downward toward your receptical.  The sun will heat the mylar and create condensation that willl collect in your receptical and you have just used a solar oven to collect drinkable water.   Total cost two bucks.

Obviously before you spend hundreds of dollars purchasing a manufactured oven, check out how to make one yourself for much much less.

Exactly, I've seen it done in desert environments with just a hole in the ground, a cup or bowl of some sort, and a plastic covering to gather water from condensation.

Also 240 is a little steep.  I'm willing to bet you could make one by yourself for much less cost.

Very cool concept, and something we should be thinking about.  It beats the hell out of creating a fire or burning fuel which gives your position away.

I forgot a step to make the solar condenser shown above.

After you dig the hole you should pee in it.   [url=http://www.freesmileys.or
