Post by: gadget99 on September 02, 2016, 10:43:47 AM
Hi All,

Just picked up one of these and a very happy with it. IMO this might be a pretty close to perfect prepper phone.

Here is the product page on the manufacturers site.

http://www.blackview.hk/blackview-147/ (http://www.blackview.hk/blackview-147/)

Take a look around on the web for reviews and where to get them.

Yeah sounds about right with the conversion rate.

I know it is a bit pricey, yet I was willing to pay to get the ruggedness and good specs.

The BV6000S is $159
   BV6000S - 16GB memory, 2GB RAM     (http://goo.gl/WlwavO)
which is a good price for a rugged phone running Android 6, rated IP68, 4.7" screen.

Will the BV6000 broadcast WiFi? Like will it act as a hotspot?

Wow cool. I hope you are as happy with you're as I am with mine.

Getting one for the wife next month. She is jazzed over having a phone that is not easy to break and can have a sim for personal stuff and one for business.

The thing has so much utility that I am still working through stuff it can do for me.

Please let me know if yours meets your expectations and requirements.

Hi All,

Wanted to add a bit on the back story on this purchase.

For the last few years I have been using a Sony Z3 that was part of my mobile phone contract. The thing is that while the Z3 is a great smartphone and has the whole water resistant thing. It is very fragile in terms of impact resistance. Now I did find a rugged case for it. Yet then I had to deal with the fact that the case impinged on the ability for the phone to get a good signal.

So I started to do some research on rugged smartphones.

The Z3 cost me close to £400 as part of the payments on the 24 month contract.

There are some really good and expensive rugged phones out there and I began to despair. Then by chance I ran across a review on the Blackview BV5000, the model before this one. Damn it looked like an affordable option. BTW you can still get them new for a good price.

I had intended to get the BV5000 at some point. Yet when I was ready to begin looking at the purchase the BV6000 had come out at a reasonable price.

So far I am REALLY happy.

I really like the SOS button feature and the PTT feature for walkie talkie functionality.

Cheers all.

Oh I forgot to mention. The micro USB charger that comes with the phone is longer at the connector than the normal micro USB.  So you need to keep it safe or order backups.

The reason it is longer is to be able to reach into the USB port. Which is deeper to accommodate the rubber cover that keeps dust and water out.

You can get them cheap on eBay so don't be worried.

I got a few from eBay as backup for about $5 each.

Just look for cables with the long 8mm micro USB connector as opposed to the usual 3.8mm.

Many tablets out there these days require these also. Makes for q more robust charging port on the device that is less susceptible to breaking.

If it all fits tight it will make for a more robust arrangement for sure. Usually when I wear out a phone its the charging port or as of lately getting them wet, hoping that this fixes both issues and also looking forward to owning a 'droid.

Just noticed the compass app is not working. The firmware developer's are aware of the issue and are working on fixing it in the next firmware update.

OK All....

This phone has a Push To Talk Button.

Now the App that you can use with that is called Zello.

So with Zello you can use the phone as a walkie Talkie over the internet.

Here is the deal, you can use zello of most smartphones and PC.

Check out the website.

https://zello.com/

If anyone install's this my user name on Zello is     sfcfinchrs

Feel free to add me.

I'm having to trade in my Note 7 (which I LOVE) because its apparently going to explode some day.

Ho hum.

Soooo, I first thought of this phone as a possible replacement, but realized it doesn't accept an SD memory card and it has 3GB RAM when other smartphones have 4-6 GB RAM. Anyone know of a similar phone to the BV6000 that more closely meets those specs, or that at least allows for SD memory cards?

Hiya,

My BV6000 has a micro SD slot. I am running a 32gb chip in it now.

As you said the performance of the BV6000 is not up there with the high end smart phones out there.

I traded high end performance for the other features and ruggedness at the price.

There are some higher end rugged smart phones out there.

Here is on article on the subject.

Just had a thought. You can always get a high end phone the otterbox makes rugged vases for and go that way.

Thanks for the link. The phone I was interested in, the Samsung 7 Active, is unfortunately only offered to AT&T customers.

I may just get a Galaxy S7 Edge, with an Otterbox. I have mixed feelings about Otterbox, since I had it for the Galaxy S5 and after one initial crack, literally the entire thing fell apart.

May just have to use again, though. I don't know of a superior brand.

Hi Dude,

Check this case supplier. I used their case for my Sony Z3 and it worked up to spec big time.

They make cases for the phones you are interested in.

Pluse they are cheaper than otterbox much of the time.

Just ordered one of these BV6000 phones. Hopefully it's everything that it's claimed to be. My current phone, a Casio G'Zone Commando, sucks. Freezes up all the time and the battery averages a few hours with limited talk time.

Been using the BV6000 for close to two months now and am really happy with it.

My wife has proclaimed that she wants one also. So that is a vote of confidence.

I use my alot throughout each day (4-6 hrs of surfing and using apps) and can get two days of use out of one charge.

I hope you like yours.

Finally got mine today. For everyone's info, if you're going to order one of these and don't want to wait for a month, don't order it from Gear Best. They took forever. It's a bit more expensive from Amazon but you'd get it quick.

Turns out it doesn't work with my current carrier, Page Plus, who uses Verizon's network. I like the phone after a brief examination. It is quite large though.  I'm looking into switching carriers. I believe, based on some more research, that it will work with the AT&T network. Can anyone confirm this?

Finally checked out the link. Turns out I've been looking at the exact same phone, it just gets sold under a different name in S.A.
They cost about R5500 here, and no service providers offer them so I'll probably have to look at getting one credit if I do.

The last rugged smart phone I had was the Samsung Xcover2. Absolutely bloody bullet proof and not a terrible phone for the time. Unfortunately the charger point was crap, pretty much everyone I know who had one ended up chucking it because the charging point kept packing up.

So, I've had the BV6000 now since November of last year. I really like it except for one thing. The loudspeaker quit working a couple months ago. I did a software reset but that didn't help. The speaker for the phone is fine but the one on the back for music, speakerphone etc. is so quiet it's almost totally useless. Anybody else have this problem with theirs?

Just to give my feedback about the OtterBox Defender   https://goo.gl/3sHcEn  (https://goo.gl/3sHcEn), I have used several cases and now for my Pixel phone, found the Otterbox to be the best in terms of protection and also to carry (attached to the belt).
