Title: Rechargeable batteries
Post by: JoJo on May 05, 2020, 09:10:43 PM
My land line phones went bad, they would shut off while talking, so we bought a new set. Before I threw the old AA ones out I noticed that the batteries were at full charge. Six rechargeable batteries to go with my solar charger. The one mistake I made was that I threw out the charging stations. I should have saved one station and one phone to charge up batteries when I have electric power.

What type land line phone uses batteries that are double a?
I have had a cordless phone before but they always use some weird battery never anything you would recognize as a normal battery like double a triple a c d 9 volt etc.

You can recharge them pretty easy but you won't have any kind of overcharge protection. Just get a wall wart that's about 6 volts and put a 6 volt light bulb in line to act as a current limiter. and connect the hot and ground wires to the proper ends of the battery. You can make a tray and line 4 batteries up in series and use a 9 volt or even a 12 volt wall wart to charge a bunch at one time. Don't forget to put a 9 or 12 volt light bulb in series to limit that current. Make sure the wall wart is DC volts because Some are AC and are rectified in the p[iece of equipment they were made for. HINT: The lightbulb will glow when you start and then at a different brightness when they are fully charged. As I recall, they glow bright at first and then get dimmer as they batteries get full. Its been a while since I did it so it may be the other way around.

Land line as opposed to a cell phone,

The only difference with mine is they had AA batteries where these have AAA batteries. Very old phones.
I have a solar charger for SHTF (EMP) and intend to get a plug in charger when we are allowed out.

could i suggest you use a phone you like - such as the ones listed below - for normal day to day use.
then find an old rotary or old direct connect type phone for other/emergency use?  they are much tougher and don't need batteries.

 - i've tossed out 'accessories' before too - its annoying.

As everybody knows, soo I have no idea why I am typing this but...

When ever the electric goes out here at the cabin, I plug in the old analog phone into the telephone jack. Viola' we have a phone.

I don't have plug in wall phone service at my residence.  That is a thought.

I tried that the last time our power went out which is a rare event. It didn't work :(

Unless the tree that took out your power line also took out your phone line, you don't have phone service there.  Otherwise it would.

All of our wires are under ground. I've even tried it when the power was on. No Go.
