Nice set up!
Man my dad had one of those bamboo cutters back in the day..that thing will take a finger off real quick like!
But he made a snap over sheath for his, kinda like the one that comes with the SOG tomahawk...it wasnt super quick to brandish but he could carry it on his belt.
Thats the only thing he carried in the woods back hom in WV.

VooDoo tactical LBE.
Water bladder holder in rear
Lots of molle
drop leg holster (cant remember the Brand)
Dump pouch
Three pistol mag holder- condor
GI Grenade pouch. (wishful thinking)
Gadget pouch - Condor
I have modified this vest to meet my needs.
Plz keep in mind this rig is light but thick material. I live in New England and it serves well for cold weather Ops. I can wear alot of layers underneath it. I wont be adding much elses to this kit as the weight can sneak up fast with 6 loaded ak mags and my other gear. but pulling two mags from the outer most pouches ads mor storage and lightens the load considerably.
I wouldnt recomend for the south or southwest regions.
I dont mind sweating a lil in the summer but it helps keep my core warm in January.

Just got word my new armor is shipping and I should see it sometime next week.
I'll do a full review when it gets here.

Until then, I've been sitting on this carrier for months now.
I can't wait to use it.

Crye Precision JPC ( Jumpable Plate Carrier)

It weighs just 1lbs.
I like that it has nothing but needed material. This is no excess material.
The cumberbun is just webbing, double layered and stitched into MOLLE.
There isn't excess Cordula around it. It's breathable.

It has a plate pillow that is also breathable.

Front.

3) built in AR mag holders.
3) BFG 10 Speed pouches on top of the built in ones, I have the option of running
a total of 6 mags but the BFG pouches lay flat when not in use. They can also carry other specific items. (like the tourniquet pictured)

With 5 mags.

Back.
Pretty slick. Just 2 additional BFG pouches for buddy mags or other gear or radio.

The plates I picked up are only 3.2lbs each making the entire carried and armor
weigh in just under a L  single SAPI or ESAPI plate.

yea it is worth the price
Crye is always pricey, however they are always innovative and new
I like the carrier and think i will invest in one sometime, its lightweight with no frills
think of falling out of a plane with a ton of heavy gear
ounces = pounds and pounds=pain

I personally believe that the quality is worth the bit extra you are going to pay for the 5.11 pouches.  They attach and detach easier than any other pouch I have used and stay firm and stable.  I have never had a problem with mine and have been using them for years.  I'm not a huge fan of their dump pouches as they are bulkier folded than some and have no retention method at the mouth of the pouch when its open.  But I will probably be buying another of their mag pouches soon.

Buy em off USCav.com and use coupon CAVTNP for a discount.  Whether you like the guy or not, it saves you money  ;D  They only have them in black and coyote at the moment but check out the video Ill be posting soon and change the color yourself!

I have several rigs, low-pro, overt, competition, and training. Usually they are weapons-system specific but I try to keep my low-pro (and most likely to use rigs) flexible (hence the use of HSGI Taco's).

Nice rigs, btw.  I have a few things in the mail.  Will post when I get them....

As for 5.11, they make some quality pouches.  I really like their attachment system.  Another place to look is www.lapolicegear.com   They have specials about once a month.  Just check www.retailmenot.com for coupon codes, or sign up for their newsletter.

New plate carrier came in the mail today.  I've developed a whole new vocabulary of foul language getting those taco pouches on.  I'll update after I beat on it a bit next weekend....

Shellback Banshee Plate Carrier
2x LVL 3  10x12 SAPI plates
3x HSGI Taco Pouches

Blackhawk Padded Patrol Belt  (got it for $1 on eBay.  Fits real good and has that third button on the buckle)
Blackhawk Serpa  (yup, I'm a lefty)
HSGI Bleeder/Blowout Pouch  (6" Israeli Bandage, Quick Clot, roll of gauze, pair of latex gloves.  Need a good tourniquet.)
Maxpedition Roly Poly Dump Pouch
HSGI Taco Pouch
Condor 2x Pistol Mag Pouch.  (it does the job.)

You may want to choose something other than those ten speed mag holder from BFG. I used some for about a month and they lost their multicam pattern along the lines of the mags. So now I have VERY faded multicam rectangles on the front of the pouches. I know you could just take the shit out when your not using it, but think about when your in the field and having to grab your kit in a hurry and shove mags into those pouches, which is a little bit of a pain in the ass, as I am sure you know. I ended up putting them on the rear of my carrier, like you did, so that I could throw mags/ radio/ etc.. in there if the mission deemed such.

Oh yeah. I've had to toss a few of the BFG ten-speed line of products. That's part of the beauty of them though, IMO. You can pay $30-$40-$50 for s single mag pouch whereas the Ten-Speeds are $28 for a triple shingle.
I have them set up there as a "just in case" I need more mags- option. I'm not a fan of double stacking and only do so if necessary. I like to have them there because they lay flat when not in use.

I usually don't store stuff in them when I'm not out in the field. I've noticed this extends their service life.

The other downside is not being able to reinsert the mag after a tac-type reload without completely fumble fucking.
Not something you wanna be messing with. They create the need for a dump pouch for sure.

I've been rearranging stuff - cramming more stuff in the pouch dedicated to "utility" and got some new pics taken

I am moving away from a dedicated pistol belt and just using a duplicate of my CCW rig

Chest rig contents: Mora knife, pressure dressing, HX370 Radio, 2x light sticks, Sharpie, two pairs flex cuffs, 3 magazines (can be upped to six if needed), CAT

Belt BOK kit: 6" Izzy Dressing, scissors, Quick Clot (I need to put in some gloves which I removed for whatever reason)

I usually have a Multi Tool on the belt too (I was wearing it) and in the field I keep a small blue LED around my neck

What happens to open top mag pouches when you crawl?

They all needed disassembly and cleaning.

LOL, Currahee. Been there done that...learned and moved on.

Just curious...What is the purpose of the shotgun shell? Looks like you are carrying a AR.

Is that a Condor rig? Looks quite a bit like mine.

It is not my rig, one of my training buddies.

Johny, the 12g is probably left over from a three gun match.

Frosty- I believe it is a Condor

That's what happens when you crawl with your CH at belt level.  My current CH has the same setup but I wear it just under the pecs.  My mag bottoms would almost be even with the nipples in that photo and don't drag in the mud when going under a standard O-course wire section.

My next CH will have flaps though as I've come to the conclusion that unless I'm in a MagPul class, I don't need screaming speed access to them as my primary speed reload is off the belt anyway.

Will add my gear next month.  I'm almost done tweaking it.... for now. :)

Nice rig.

No integration, I just piled it all up for the pic.  I have two radio types (TYT-UHF1  (http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/8789) & Baofeng UV-5R (http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/10349)) but after using both, I will leave the 5R's for handouts and carry the TYT in this rig.  Both radios use Kenwood parts and the mike is a KMC-17

I've re-worked that list a million times, but am pretty happy with the setup now.  I use it on Mondays at Practical Rifle  (http://mrpc.info/practical-rifle/) to stay use to it's weight and keep shaking out the gear.  The pack goes into a Large Alice to complete my BOB setup which is still in flux.

The top picture is my EDC+ setup and is not worn with the rest which is the 2nd line Heavy.

DVC, your ready to rock-it with that set-up.

It's a good balance for me.  I spend 3-4 hours in it every Monday running drills and am not worn out by the weight.  Total I think it's near 45lbs with armor and water in the pack.  I'd have to double check that number though, it's likely a bit lighter.

@gunner,
My whole "heavy" second line (I include the "battle pack" as second line) is grab & go for vehicle ops or OP around the property if things get bad enough to need exterior security patrols/OP/LP in a grid down or great depression scenario.

My idea is to keep things as flexible as I can and somewhat layered with the pack being non-essentials but important ad on items like NV/extra med/ammo/shelter.

EDC+ and PC (partial lo-pro)
EDC+ and PC and Pack (partial lo-pro w/ pack for surveillance mounted ops)
Battle belt and PC and Pack (hi-pro full battle rattle for static position or movement to contact)
Battle belt and pack (several day long patrol)
Battle belt (long range patrol, short time out)

Hey DVC,

the Practical Rifle program at MR&PC looks pretty cool. I wish there was somewhere near me that offered that.

Some great stuff man!

I am running the Baofeng UV5 on my battle belt. The TYT UVF1 is only $110- and you think it is better...If you can would you explain your comparison between the two and why here or start a new topic.

Thanks

Weights (I guessed 45lb, reality = 58.4 as shown + 10.8 for carbine = 69.2lb although the PC and pack would rarely be carried together for much distance.)  Training with it all on does not seem that bad, but I'm going to have to try cutting that down.

- Warbelt 14.4lb
- Banshee PC 22lb
- TT ROP  22lb
- Loaded Carbine10.8lb

@johnny,
The 5r is a great budget setup, the TYT is just a notch up IMO as far as ruggedness/speaker clarity/Overall size and doesn't have a light that might come on by accident.

Both are the same for handheld programming, they suck, and both are easily programmed with CHIRPS.

I'm not certain of your occupational background, but if I'd have to guess it's mil/law.
And you are applying your operational experience to you new scenario. Recognize that in this new position you don't have that logistical support you could count on previously.
Now to my point, with your current set up what is your operational distance/time? (D/T) Previously you'd supply, head out, operate and return. With a "prepper" scenario that is not guarenteed. At which point the attenuation of your capabilities will be more deadly then bullets.

When I put my kit together* I recognized that having arbitrary quantities of supplies like food, water, batteries was just careless guesswork and that I would need to maintain all of them for as long as possible and have a means to resupply them without undue increase in risk.
I can relate to your kit and the idea behind it (sound a bit weird), because you've layered it almost the same way I have mine. EDC, Belt, PC, Pack.  The only thing i'm not seeing is if you've considered your D/T with layers removed.

My EDC layer gives me a maximum of 2 days of E&E with out resupply before shadows start looking like bad guys. (I'm working on a bail out kit and would welcome some ideas)
My EDC + Belt gives me 3 days of operational reconnaissance capacity + the ability to resupply bare essentials.
My LBV  allows communications & engagement possibility.
My EDC + Belt + Pack gives me 8 days with the ability to resupply food, water, power indefinitely.

* Yes I don't have it posted here it just always seems unfinished to me. I'll make an effort to post it.

I hear ya Burt. I have been meaning to post a picture of my stuff BUT it never seems to be done. For example I am having a new "retention holster" made for my new battle pistol. When I receive it I will post.

Yupper, I am moving from my 1911 to a 9mm on my battle rattle. I know that this is heresy to many of you. I saw the benefit of carrying 39 rounds vs. 24 in three mags when doing some recent training. Can't afford a new handgun so I am going to be carrying my trusty Browning Hi-Power. Not as sexy as a H&K P30 or Sig P220 but what the heck...Use what youz gotz.  ;)

A brief aside:

Actually Johnny, if you look around there are pretty good deals on polymer 9 mm pistols. I was having trouble with my Sig P250 (read: we weren't meant for each other) and traded it pretty much straight even for a Sig SP2022, the polymer version of the Sig P226. It even came with night sights! :-D

Anyways, point is if you don't have the money but are looking for a newer model 9 mm pistol, there are some great trades to be made.

I'm not sure what you mean?  What other scenario is guaranteed?

My gear reflects my mission that crosses over from property patrol (belt), to vehicle / static OP, OPS.

There is no guerrilla warfare in the plan and no need for extended supply past a day as it's Alamo or bust for me.

BHP is tried and true JM, but like Rah mentioned, there are some fantastic deals on new 9mm out there, as there seems to be a glut after the panic buying of the last couple of years. Might be a good time to jump on them before the next panic. Could have kicked myself for not scoring a Sig 2022 for well under $400 not that long ago.

Be sure to look for things like Night sights when you're browsing. Used Sigs, I find, are more likely than other brands to have the "SigLite" night sights because they're their own brand. Good deals on used pistols with aftermarket night sights don't seem as common. If anyone else knows of a company that is similar, I'd like to know about it.

Post up your stuff even if it ain't finished. You can always put on the list stuff you are gong to get also.

If you wait until it's perfect, it will never be posted. Also the point is to start a discussion on WHY your setup is how it is (as Burt has done) not show off pretty gear.

There is no guerrilla warfare in the plan and no need for extended supply past a day as it's Alamo or bust for me.
Then your rig is excellent for an Alamo scenario.

But why settle for "bust"? Why limit your mobility?

Because shit will happen.

Your onsite water could run dry, or become contaminated with something.
Bad fire discipline could damage a critical renewable you were counting on.
Poor weather, vehicle accident, etc.
Any number of things could render your Alamo unsecured or unsustainable without a siege.

I'm not trying to be a prick here and play devils advocate. It's just that what ever hardship you or I or any one else for that mater it is going to be facing can be traced back to not having a supporting economy to sustain ourselves. And while "preppers" or what ever the hell we are try and localize that sustaining human habitat (economy). The option of nomadic ability is often thrown by the wayside. Don't misunderstand me a complex economy is the future. but an ability to separate ourselves from it lest the price becomes to high (not necessarily money) is a freedom and tactical advantage I relish.
Title: Re: Post your kit thread
Post by: USMC0331 on July 05, 2014, 10:29:13 PM
@burt,
Mobility is limited by not being able to leave over a dozen family members who are not preppers.  I do have a "bugout" 23ft 5th Wheel for last ditch nomad trekking (and vacations :) )  and agree that you need to have options, but my primary and most likely path will be "alamo" in the case of an sudden "Event" like EMP, Earthquake, etc.

For slow erosion, hyperinflation, etc.  I would likely be going Nomad in the trailer looking for work and the extended family who are not preppers would end up on some kind of .gov welfare/soup line.

I don't have all my eggs in one basket if that's what you are worried about.

Well I finally had some free time today to take a picture or two of my kit.

Below attached is my battle belt, battle vest and primary and secondary in word.doc format. I can't figure out how to post it in this field so you could actually read it.

As everyone's kit, they are work in progress and mission specific. Yes they deed some camo dye, just haven't gotten around to it. Just too much to do here at the cabin this time of year.

Open to any suggestions...

Tactical shamag FTW!  :fuckYeah:
also
I've got a set of like new OD Blackhawk! H suspenders i'm not using if you need them.

and side question: did you try to not match any cammo pattern?
Title: Re: Post your kit thread
Post by: JohnyMac on August 07, 2014, 09:13:03 AM
Yeah a shamag to match my AO. I was wondering if anybody would take note.

I use it deer hunting as the camo mask I use to wear tended to fog up my glasses unless it was perfectly on and I breathed a special way. Down at Max's I wet and then rolled it and put it around my neck during the afternoon as it was hot as all get out on the range.

My camo pattern or in my case lack there of was dictated by $$$ and availability. I know it isn't tacticool but I am not a tacticool type of guy.  8) For example I bought US Army surplus when I could due to the price. Even haggled the price down when appropriate, e.g. the three US ARMY canteen pouches.  ;)

PM me a price on the BH "H" suspenders and if the price is right I would be happy to take them off your hands.  ;D

On the other hand a short story (for me anyways) on the holster I am currently carrying on my battle belt.

I mentioned in a prior post that I am dropping my 1911 from my BB (Battle belt) and going to a sidearm that would hold more rounds than eight. So I pulled my BHP (Browning Hi-Power) out of the safe.

Trying to find a retention holster for the BHP prooved to be problematic. Basically nobody offered one but Safariland. They would not make one where the pistol was cocked n' locked only hammer down. Then I remembered that a teammate at MVT had a custom made holster for his H&K P30. I emailed him and he gave me the name of N.U.O.S.U. who makes retention holsters on the side.

I contacted him and he was more than willing to make me one BUT he did not have a BHP Blue gun to use for the template. I found one, cocked n' locked and sent it to him. About 2 weeks after he received the Blue Gun I received my new retention holster with a Safariland hood.

There were a few cliches which he fixed in a NY minute but all and all I am very happy with my holster.

I appreciate that Erick. I'm going to have to attribute that to the lighting and the white back ground during the picture shoot. The camera compensated for the bright glossy white by darkening the whole image.
I noticed that the Left side shot (with the smiley) turned out the best.

some of you might remember them from one of the (many) previous forums we were on.
I thought it would provide some contrast

Burt, is pic 1 your battle belt and pic two your vest?

Pic one is self-explanatory with the exception of the rolled 'thingy' in the back.

Pic two: I know you are sporting a new set-up however have one question with this older set-up.

One of the safest position is prone behind something, with that said, man O' man you have a lot of stuff  on the front of your vest that will dig in and also not provide you extra millimeters to get down even lower.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Correct Jmac, the fanny pack contained my ponchocouple of other goodies and a place to store the straps if I didn't need them.

Very observant!
I had WAY to much ammunition on my front and yeah it was incredibly uncomfortable. The plates helped a bit with it but if you'll notice my new set up everything is flush to adjust for that one fact.
Also I don't have those two large pouches on my side anymore again helping in the prone and just overall movement.
All of which moved me away from the military "I'm a human pack animal" mentality.

Burt, how do I get other guys to break that mentality?

I took a former 11B hiking a couple of weeks ago and dude's pack was easily 80lbs.. A dozen pair of socks, 6 MREs, a fucking E-tool and all manner of other bullshit..

All he brought that got used as his mess kit (which was) WWII issue, one pair of socks, sleeping bag, puss pad and poncho. I could have strangled him.

You know TG when I started out backpacking my first hike was with a 50# pack  I literally only used about 20% of what I had packed away. Upon getting home I threw everything I didn't use into a pile.

Then I compared notes of what my backpacking buddy didn't use and used. We coordinated what we brought before we left on our next trek. Both of our packs came in under 20#'s and was much more manageable.

The reason for the short story is that some folks just have to figure that out on their own. You can only say, "the wood stove is hot - Watch out!" so many times. Sometimes you have to let the person burn themselves.  ;)

Ok I would approach him about it in a few different ways. just because he has the gear doesn't mean that they are still viable modern options.
The army/military DOES NOT use the best gear. They work off the "if it's not broke don't fix it" principle and they don't give a shit if the guys that lug it around break because of it.  (looking to replacing my millsurp sleeping bag "the brick")

Next I would communicate to him that this is a different mission, a different theater, a different enemy, with no support in the rear. That should destroy whatever he thought he knew about camping/hiking/surviving. He's no longer part of a unit. He's OP4 (opposing forces).

Then with that in mind I'd coax him to apply that "attention to detail" & "accept only excellence" as he puts all his gear on military tribunal and justifies every single piece on the criteria of:
Is It Efficient?
Is It As Light Weight As Possible
Does it last?
Is It Multi Purpose?

Well I got this new plate carrier and a few pouches from USGG. Its a sweet ass vest. This sucker is built to last! I did not pay for this myself, god knows I couldn't afford it. A friend of mine was so generous that he decided out of the blue to buy it for me and have it shipped directly from the workshop, to my house. I'm forever grateful and will make sure I put it to good use. No closet decorations here! Its setup to supply a shotgun as a primary.

Thats correct. I prefer it to the velcro shot cards for speed and simplicity and the ammo is secure and out of the elements until its needed. I run all #00 in the pouches and all slugs on my fixed side saddle.

Shellback Plate Carrier with 3-HSGI Rifle Tacos, 1 HSGI Pistol Taco, 1 HSGI Taco for Flash Light, 1- Freeman Knives Blade, 100l Bladder, Blowout Kit
- If not using the battle belt I use a Ory-Gun Kydex Holster  with a kydex rifle mag holder for my "happy mag".
- I add my comms Pouch as necessary. As i only occasionally get to shoot where I use comms, I dont generally have my kit set up with it.

(http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i407/CSouza06/DSC_5227.jpg) (http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/CSouza06/media/DSC_5227.jpg.html)
Battle belt with 3 HSGI Rifle Tacos, 2 Snake Eater Tactical Pistol Mag holders, Ory-Gun Kydex Holster, HSGI Taco for Flash Light,  HSGI Pistol Holder for multi tool, ESEE-4 Blade, Blowout kit

I generally wear one or the other, and cant remember the last time I wore both together.  I run these fairly slick with a choice of 2 different packs (24hr or 72hr) that I use in conjunction. My Nods are part of my Pack load out.

For a sling I use a BFG VCAS sling that I stitched to work as a 1 or 2 point sling using Magpul hardware. I set up my rifles the same so that I can use the same sling and they all operate the same. 90% of the time I use it as a 2pt sling, but it is nice to convert to 1pt in higher intensity and cqb situations.

I like the HSGI Tacos for rifle mags as they will accept AR mags (80% of the time for me), .308 Mags (15% of the time for me) and AK mag(5%) though the AK mags are not "ideal". Last class I ran my AR for 1 day and my LMT MWS for 2 days and used the same kit all the way through.

Burt while I was typing I kept wondering why I was having such a hankering for Mexican food. :)

The knifes position with the kit on is vertical...in the pic it looks like it is angled back but it isnt once the kit is put on. I can draw easily with either hand as the knife is located just to the right side of my torso.

My first attempt a few years ago... works decent. However if its hot out I would die probably lol... needs like half the burlap it has. I ended up adding dark brown and green to it as well.

Joanne fabrics is GREAT!

I will not hesitate going there especially with the customer service I get from the sales ladies when there. They really tend to cater to my needs.

I have purchased fabrics for curtains (Yes I sew...I was taught by my Grandmother and it has come in handy over the years especially repairing sails) and I buy my pillow ticking stripe fabric there for patching when shooting the flintlock. .023 thickness patch + .526 pure lead round ball + 80 gr FFF = A very accurate lead pill traveling at ~1,600 fps at muzzle.
