Ar 500 armour plates
« on: July 03, 2013, 03:15:08 PM »
I recently purchased a set of 500 armour plates. One with base coat build up one without. My theory behind buying steel instead of cermanic is that they are thinner and have a multi-hit capability. The later is important due to the fact I doubt many of us will be able to get resupply or have the funds to buy another set if they are hit. This holds true especiality in a WROL situation.

The thinner plate without the base coat build up is 8 pounds while the other is 10. Bringing the total to 18. The base coat build up is made up of line-x truck bed liner which has been shown to reduce spalling. I have the base coat build up in the front and the plain one in the back. I really doubt if i get hit in the back any of the spalling will hit me, unless i'm taking a knee or similar position.

I'll post where i got them if i get the ok.

I just did 20 pushups with my LBE and gas mask on. I could probably do 50 but i'd be sucking it pretty bad after.

I think they could bother you for long marches, but rock on man you'll get used to the extra weight  :gasMask:

While you are right, the plates help to balance out out my carrier so i don't think they'll affect me that much. One of my goals is be able to carry my setup plus a 50 pound pack without getting to fatigued after a decent hike.
