Title: personal fishfarm
Post by: Colombo on December 23, 2011, 02:41:30 PM
Got hold of some fiberglass molds for recycle bins, got creative and now I am finishing up my first 600+ gallon tank. Probably going with cats and maybe a run of tilapia during the summer.

Hey Colombo. This is awsome. Could you give a detailed accounting of your efforts on this one. I would really like to learn from your experiences on this one. And i think this thread should turn into its own section.

No problem, I had a false start last year but whipped out the shovel and got to work now. I'm building a smoker/grill next to the tank location too.

Already got an idea for free bugs, solar fence charger modified to a bug zapper along with organics from the garden as well as duckweed particularly for the tilapia. Got to do some test runs with both the catfish and the tilapia but from what I've gathered so far the tilapia will be easier.

1/2  filled it about 2 weeks ago found a leak, sealed it up and finished filling it last night actually. Got some brim in it now to start the bio in the filter and put down pavers and a strawberry wall next to it. I'll get some pics tonight and post them tomorrow [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

.....?
You'll give him 100$?
You will thank him graciously?

Ummm if you make vids for the whole process it will be pretty cool.

What are you planning on using to keep the the water flowing to keep it from gooing into pure slime?

I was trying to come up with a solar powered/windmill that would keep the water disturbed  for a lil vanity pond thingy for my front yard.  But, never built it didn't have the money for it :(

Probably going with a compressed air backup flow system for power outages. Have some water plants in trays for beginning the bio cycle. Still working on the filter system, I'd like to go solar here in florida. It's starting to come together. Got some Ideas for hardened firing positions, just gotta come up with a proper disguise for them.

Valentine's day Ranger grave?

A fighting position for the modern military?

"Ah.. Sarge, I think you are taking this whole 'battle buddy' thing a little too far"

But seriously, I love instuctable Crow... but I am looking into a much more complected system then a pond. Where I am it is too hot and dry for a low efficiency system like that.

Sounds like an excuse  [url=http://yoursmiles.org/p-m
I think you maybe smart enough to make your own. I would suggest a network of buried or semi buried 50gal drums one being your filter andproxy for your pump or what have you, maybe use a thick net for the tops of the barrels to regulate heat and dust this would also be the  reason to bury them as well as cover them with a lean to or something for a barrier from the elements. What eva! Good luck tg. If I get bored enough I may look more into it.

Not an excuse bro, I am just looking at producing proten and what systems are most effective in a labor in product out stand point.

I would like to replicate the system that UrbanFarmingGuys are using but I'm not willing to jump in all willy nilly because that approach eats time and money like there is no tomorrow. I would rather have useful information that allows me to design a solid system so I am not fumbling in the dark with my cash... I got a very limited supply of time and even less money.

Check out their video it looks like a really trick setup.

I almost hooked up with a chick once that smelled like she had a personal fishfarm. [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at Anyway guys we have 2 large farm ponds that are stocked with bass brim and catfish. Depending on the size of the pond the state wildlife comission may stock it for you. Here you tell them the size of the pond and they give you the fish to stock with. Also alot of guys neglect the importants of fish, it has alot of fats the body needs to live. We wont be getting those fats from all the fried foods anymore and fish is a great source.

After working out a little harder than I had planned I started rat fucking
The cabinets for something high in protien,i grabbed a bag of sun flower seeds
Then this post come to mind, thinking about your surroundings sunflowers seem ideal they are high in protien and fibers I know they don't have the fats fish do but growing harvesting and seed saving would be a lot easier.just a thought, having a fiah farm in the desert seems like out would be a losing battle.
