That is amazing!  I'm trying to figure out how that works.  Is it magnifying the sunlight from outside?

That's exactly what it's doing.  The bleach is so nothing grows in the water, which would make them dim over time.

Same concept as why it's so bright outside when there is snow on the ground.

Actually if you'd paid attention this was brought up and she said it didn't leak.  Probably silicon sealant or such.

Key words in that... "SHE" said.  :P

How much heat will be lost out those holes in the winter....oh yeah, that water will freeze and expand in the winter too. I see this as a terrible idea in reality while it's kind of neat on the surface. Keep your roof as solid and insulated as possible.

How much heat will be lost out those holes in the winter.... I'm sure it's worth purchasing insulation material and filling around the bottles. oh yeah, that water will freeze and expand in the winter too. You don't have to fill them up all the way; you can fill them 3/4 and still get a lot of light without worrying about expansion. Plus, in climates at the equator, you probably don't have to worry about that as much. I see this as a terrible idea in reality while it's kind of neat on the surface. Keep your roof as solid and insulated as possible.

Have at it then!  I wouldn't compromise the integrity of the roof over my head for a hippy lightbulb.

No doubt! I wouldn't, either. However, if you want to build a shack or something on your land for work, storage, whatever, it might be useful to avoid running electricity out there.
