Title: 4' Tractor Driven Tillers Do Not Play Well With Chicken Wire
Post by: JohnyMac on May 31, 2021, 05:52:57 PM
Yupper, ol' Johnymac was tilling the garden today and one of my tiller tongs caught a section of the 4' high chicken wire fence.

The 4-foot tiller attached to my 52 hp Kubota tractor, looked like a wire cocoon. Took me 3-hours to unwind that birds nest.

Live and learn I guess.  :tractor:

And right now, nothing to do but laugh at it, right?

I can sympathize with you Johny.  Earlier this year, I snagged a tomato cage with our tiller.  It took a while to get it free.

I was certainly the butt of jokes at Bible Study last night. LOL.

Once everyone had their fun with me, some of the older folks admitted they had done similar when they were farmers. One guy explained to me that I was lucky with the chicken wire. He spooled up a hank of barbed wire.  :hiding:

I did a 100 foot roll of 3/16 steel cable on a zero turn mower.  And I got every last foot of it too.  Kinda strange to see a black plastic drum come bouncing fast at you.

And no, it was not fun.  But it sure is funny now.

Most of the time when you do something like that ONLY thing to do is laugh at it and yourself, and hope too many people did not see you.  Because they are laughing at you too.  If you want you can try to convince yourself they are laughing with you, but we all know better.

yep been there done that. I can tell you what's worse than chicken wire is drip tape. It will melt to the tractor tines as it gets wrapped up and you have to cut it out as well. Lovely hours of fun. NOT!!!! lol

I think we've all done something similar. I "found" about 100' of 8'-high nylon netting that the previous owners of my house had set up for the kids' batting machine in the backyard. It had laid on the ground and the grass and plants had overgrown it. Could've caught whales in that net it was so heavy-duty. I also know someone whose wife wound up ALL of the radials for their 160m antenna in the mower. Look at it in a positive light, you got 3 free hours of instruction in patience as a virtue!
